It’s called a ‘death spiral’ for a reason.
The BART gets ear-splittingly loud going under SF Bay.
You almost wish the water would rush in and end it all.
Well, what about “Global warming”?
We are all supposed to ride trains in few years?!
D’Oh!
Public rail systems means that having to mix with the public - lots of bums and anti-social people. Thats a skip for me.
I think, BART is one of the few examples of mass transit which makes some sense. Yet, even it, in ultraliberal area, does not attracts too many riders!
BART appeared to be overbuilding even 20 years ago, back when I used it often. I wonder how many passengers use that route going to the SF Airport?
I hope it’s more than usually ride the Smart Train in Marin. Whenever I see the Smart Train, the cars look about 75% empty of people.
Draconian left-wing attempts to control the populace during the pandemic have ended up emptying out left-wing strongholds like downtown SF. And mass-transit systems like BART, so beloved by left-wingers, are victims of the fallout. Excellent.
Obviously, what we need to do is charge people for NOT riding BART. More gas taxes, a mileage tax, a telecommuting tax, more bridge and road tolls. I mean come on! Is there any problem a tax can’t solve? /S
In May of 2019, under President Trump’s orders, the Federal Railroad Administration pulled a billion dollar grant from the California High-Speed Rail Authority. In June of 2021, Biden re-instated it. California had originally received $3.5 billion for the project.
i drove into silicon valley last week during morning rush hour. traffic was extraordinarily light for rush hour, with essentially no backup. iirc, typical pre-bug traffic was at well under 35 mph. the explanations that came to my mind were:
1. office workers still working from home due to bug aftereffects
2. less office workers overall due to economy
3. less retail store workers and shoppers due to amazon etc
4. less service industry (restaurants/hotels/gyms/salons) work and workers due to bug
also i have noticed that more and more people that i know shy away from riding bart due to safety concern reasons.
safety concerns seem to be especially crucial with potential asian female riders...
It's lies, all the way down.
Sorry. Hate to say it. Such things as a commuter rail depend on honest, peaceful users.
Other things that depend on honest, peaceful people will soon collapse, too.
And we know why…
BART was well run and despite being in San Francisco, was considered to be very safe. To me, it was one of the (few) things that worked well in the Bay Area. But times change...
I agree, hardly anyone wears a tie anymore. But even today, if you need to attend an important meeting, a tie may be worn.
The problem of the stinky, loud, pooping, sometimes violent bums that ride the BART trains without paying any fare is a huge problem that wasn’t mentioned here. Many people now avoid BART because management lets the bums do whatever they want. There were also no layoffs when the ridership dropped. They gave big raises instead of laying off anyone.
Obviously, what we need to do is charge people for NOT riding BART. More gas taxes, a mileage tax, a telecommuting tax, more bridge and road tolls. I mean come on! Is there any problem a tax can’t solve? /S
New York did that decades ago. Forced the TBTA (bridges and tunnels) under the MTA. Now the toll bridge gold mine supports the mass transit money pit.
