90,000 Tons of Diplomacy.
Absolutely, you have to deploy it. The carrier is incredibly effective at projecting American power around the oceans of the world. A shooting war with the Russians or Chinese make them and everything else obsolete. EMP puts us back into the 19th century so carriers will be of less concern than the entirety of our domestic technology instantly being turned into junk.
I never asserted anything about the Aircraft carrier, my post only implies the media is often manipulated to seek more funds. Do you honestly believe the media is not used to seek more money for the military industrial complex?
Not sure how I am therefor grossly misinformed as I never made a claim about the Aircraft carrier itself.
How many more wooden hulled, wind powered ships built after the Merrimac sunk steam powered ironclads? Are you a Canadian? Man, with your strategic insight, you’d be a star at the Pentagon. Why not take the next two weeks corruption money for vinyl pants and buy him a Gerald R. Ford? Hell, he already owns one president.
Fact is our military is being degraded across all he board, from lack of qualified volunteers to lack of qualified leadership, to unserviceable/ flawed equipment, to draining / depleting our stocks, diversity/ trans training to fill in the blanks.
I fully expect the draft to be installed, and that will be an indication of desperation for many reasons. US hegemony is dying.
Thanks for that, very informative read.
Current military recruiting shows less than 15% of draft age US citizens are fit enough to survive training.
Pretty damning indictment of the EMALS on pp 29:
272 cycles between failures observed
4166 cycles is the target
Of course every new system of this level of complexity will have teething troubles but this seems high for this far into the program.
Considering what the Democrats/Leftists have done
to America's military, you can be be sure the carrier
is LGBTO ... whatever, friendly.
Fix your own Nazi Socialist cesspool before you comment here on ours or Americans, Foreigner.
They are "our" military only is the sense that we are forced to pay for it. The officer corps get critical race theory at the military academies. They will massacre Americans if ordered.
As far as I'm concerned this is a story about an enemy aircraft carrier.
Perfectly correct. Moreover, the construction of major weapon systems like aircraft carriers is just part of the corporate welfare racket. That's all it is.
I would welcome the draft just to put some testosterone in this generation. We would need to fix boot camp and the woke officers too.
He's just stating the facts. with air and undersea drone attacks... each drone costing a couple of thousand dollars with dummy, decoy or chaff drones included... a swarm of 1000 drones would cost only 10 million if each drone was worth 10,000... and they aren't. You do the math pal. $10,000,000 to knock out a MULTI-BILLION dollar ship with the aircraft, personal and weapons on board. Aircraft carriers are going the way of the battleship. The next "big war" is going to be horrific. Probably similar to WW1 where the tactics haven't caught up with the technology.
Imagine if drones were the "machine gun" of ww1... then imagine all the tech equipment without GPS, including aircraft, missiles etc.... The Russians and Chinese will not have BeiDou and GLONASS... then what?
Tanks are drone magnets. So would you sign up for an Army armor MOS?
Nobody knows what the war will look like and from the comments they don't even realize that nobody knows the length of time it takes to wage a "real war". It ain't the movies....or tv.
I have seen some military grade installations “hardened” against certain levels of EMP.n Perhaps there are some such measures being used in fleet construction as well, who knows.
I think we have very fast missile cruisers that will be linked in real-time to satellite guidance that will be long-range power projectors and likewise there are other forms of Naval power projection in our future.
Perhaps others could offer speculation as to what we are going to see in that regard. Navy forces can put large tonnages of man and material on another continents but only if such vessels can cross the oceans. What will insure such crossings?
“Most of the blather is about pitching for more funds.”
Forbes or not, CVN Ford Class is this generation’s procurement disaster.
I’m highly skeptical of readiness claims, as evidenced by the linked report.
There needs to be hearings on this. ‘Sometimes’ they get it right (the media).
I agree on all you just wrote.
Agreed on “teething”; in fact, I’ve been withholding critique until now.
The worst reports on the elevators.
It’s clear that reliability/maturity of the technologies was grossly overstated at the design level when incorporating these changes which directly impact the effectiveness of the ship as a whole.
It won’t be EMP that takes out the carriers. That’s not my point. A shooting war with the Chinese or Russians where carrier battlegroups are being sunk will cross the nuclear threshold in short order. When your phone, car, lights and toaster permanently go dark you won’t know or care what happened to the fleet’s carriers.
Even the plumbing has a design flaw that not only can’t be fixed but going to be built into the next few carriers.
The toilets back up..
We could have had additional TWO of these with the money we gave to Ukraine. Think about that.
