Right now, the GOP has no chance in 2024, regardless of who they nominate. It is all for show. And it does keep those campaign contributions coming in for the consultants and vendors.
Seven Democrat-controlled cities decided the "election" in 2020. Nothing has changed, since then. Republicans, other than DeSantis, are not pushing for changes either.
We will never see a Republican candidate elected as President again. Other means will be used to select the President. Those means will require sustained control of the military and police forces, mostly the national police forces. The Leftists do not need or want a capable military force. It takes very little military skill to run a system of prison camps, err - "reeducation centers", for opponents of the régime. The 69th Intersectional Dildo Brigade can take care of that reasonably well.
It's all good until the economy runs down and there is no money to pay for the police. Then there is a collapse and something different replaces the entire system. Most likely a collection of regional warlords, with a very thin remainder on the east coast still calling themselves the Government of the United States. Nobody outside of that region will pay much attention to them.
