The arm and sword are an old heraldic device from England that has nothing to do with Miles Standish. It denotes honor and bravery and was added to remind people of the sacrifices of the patriots who fought in the in the Revolution.

Notice they only quote the first part of the motto so they can infer it is meant as a threat to the Indians when in fact the motto was a reference to the British crown as a reminder of the ideals of the American Revolution.
