A 12.4 savings account with a disability policy rider using a system like the government employee Thrift saving plan. Open a version open to every worker in the country with the ability to add their own funds. If the average person could put their 12.4% social security taxes and another voluntary 10% + any redirected voluntary employer matching would make even minimum wage workers millionaires after 35-40 years of work. Real money tied to individuals. The payout would make SS look pitiful.

Can’t do that because it would break the government’s ability to pick winners and losers across generations and spend the excess. They have become addicted to ever increasing SS surplus contributions. Now that the excess is gone that’s why it’s an emergency and the people are being scared. They (Voters) owe back $3+ trillion in those excess contributions and can’t excess spend and pay it back. The voters did this by voting for tax and spend parties to DC! Wars and Welfare!

This is why you never even address Social Security, period.

There are many other areas to cut, because you can even start thinking about Social Security.

SS/Medicare/Medicaid, are all socialist programs. The sooner they are thrown away, the better. Enough with kicking the debt bombs down to gen x,y,z. We are a broke country that is destroying the future with debt.

.
The point is there is so much crazy spending - they don’t even read the bills, and they don’t care if it’s allowing the cities and states to fund crazy socialist and Dem looney programs, like payments for staying home, or payments not to squeegee and attack tourists.

All the crazed Govt Orgy spending - with Ukraine - and Judas Pence wants to focus on Social Security (Lindsey Graham has said the same recently) - it’s because the people that have worked for 40 years and paid in have the least representation in DC.

.

Yes. People don’t understand. I try and explain too. There’s even a difference in SS disability). when I was diagnosed with AML, I went thru a year of inpatient hospitalizations. (Not in the entire year. But a lot of it). Anyway, AMLis an automatic and immediate approval for disability. I only had to speak to SS from my hospital bed and it was approved right then and there (pending the faxed paperwork that the dr/social worker at the hospital sent thru). Even tho I was approved (just for 2 years) I had to wait 5 months for the first check. There was no retro. I had paid into the system. (After those 2 years, I had to retire early from my job, so after SS Beni’s ended, my job picked up my early retirement from my job). It felt like it took 2 years of paperwork for retirement.

However if someone is under the poverty line, they get it immediately and for any time period they waited while it was getting processed, they got retro.

(. What Is the difference between SSI and SSDI? The major difference is that SSI determination is based on age/disability and limited income and resources, whereas SSDI determination is based on disability and work credits.
So the 2years of SSDI disability I received was from the ‘pot’ I payed into. And the payments were adjusted accordingly.

I learned all this the hard way.

I disagree. Americans want political leaders who will fight for their values and beliefs.

You’re still paying for others. It’s a ponzi scheme.

Payers of today are creating the benefits of tomorrow - it’s not your retirement. I also think that taxing tax dollars is stupid (isn’t there a law against that somewhere?), but they insist. Current workers are paying for current retirees, bit they want the retirees’ money too (depending on your state as well).

I paid in a few years as a teen before I started dialysis at 21 (no, no fault of my own). At first I was receiving about $400 a month, which even 15 years ago was impossible to live on. It gradually went up after SSI supplemental kicked in and then again when my dad retired. I’ve just become well enough to hold a real job at 35, and I’m glad to not need to rely on it anymore.

You get stuck in a psychological and economic rut, wondering if you’re even capable of contributing anymore. In a few months, I can put in for full time and get health insurance benefits too. There’s seniority stuff here that takes precedent, even though nobody is vying for those full time positions now.

>There already are private tax advantaged savings options, 401ks and IRAs.

And while you work to fund those, FedGov takes 15.3% up front (in case you think it’s ‘only’ 6.2%, don’t forget Medicare and your employer is paying the other half of both those, which coulda been salary to you).

>It’s NOT a phucking entitlement. I’ve been paying in since 1984. I EARNED it!!!

And they took it and spent it. Some on other people’s SS, others on ‘programs.’ Now it’s gone.

The abortion mills killed the workers that would pay for you or me before they could exist, much less work. In ‘exchange’ they let in millions of invaders who are a net drain by latching onto welfare and committing crime, and are expert in undocumented everything, since that’s both how they got here and how things work where they came from.

Sorry to hear you had such health problems at so young an age. I’m glad your health has improved so you can start living your life. It couldn’t have been easy for you, or your parents. I will keep you in my prayers. Good luck, and God bless.
