That's a nice legal fiction, but the Soviet Union and the Russian Empire were the same thing. If you believe that the Latvian and Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republics were coequal with Russia in any meaningful sense of the word, I have a Kremlin Wall to sell you. Russia had an expansionist foreign policy under the Tsars, it did under the Soviets and it does now under Putin.
In fact, you could argue that Russia was *less* expansionist under the Soviets, at least after Trotsky was kicked out, than it is now (and that's in no way a defense of the Communists!).
Fascinating. I'm not aware of anybody, left, right or center, who holds this position.

AGAIN, that shows the LACK OF EDUCATION on the part of most of the Neocon Supporters. During the Cold War, it was a given that the Warsaw Pact would roll through Western Europe unless blocked by Nuclear Weapons. Today, Russia cannot even get halfway though Ukraine.
...but nothing new here, the Neocon Supporters simply want WW3, so I guess we’ll have to throw away a bunch of cities for them (hopefully not in Texas, though).

Then tell your buddies to read up on who Reagan was up against.
