We used to say that in mining geology, a temporary job lasted about two years and a permanent job lasted about two years. Projects would end or mines would close, and you’d move on.

“It was a sustainable path.”
Sustainability has been drummed into these kids’ heads all through school. Anything not sustainable is evil. They don’t realize that very few things are sustainable in the long term. That includes battery components and wind turbine blades that are needed for their precious green energy.

But but, but this was their forever job, where their qualifications was whining, and hard, left politics

It was a sustainable path. This jumped out at me also. What are these students learning in college? Anything useful?

I remember Rush talking about how it was being drummed into students. I have heard young people dropping this word in their decision making.

Getting laid off is a devistating thing. Especially when you (your entire dept) gets replaced with a foreign nationals from India and Pakistan.
Geting laid off is a very politically polarizing thing. It makes you and extreme leftist or and extreme right winger.

More layoffs soon to come. Corporations are going to fire all workers who “work from home”.

I'm in Houston, and in my mid-50's...
I remember the oil/gas industry of the early 80's.
So, this is just another cycle...

That’s why one of the things young students should strive for is to build a knowledge/skills portfolio, that has a level of diversification much like a financial portfolio. Develop a skill with your hands, as well as skills that use the brain, across multiple disciplines.

Good point; I’d expect that naivete from a teenager.
Now does it push her further left (demanding the government maintain her standard of living while she was making real money), or does she grow up and lean rightward?

The called that "the peace dividend."
I wonder what ever happened to that flighty concept?

The peace freakshow would sit outside the Convair parking lot, at Kearny Mesa every Friday, urging us to make school busses and refrigerators instead of Tomahawks.
Imagine how hard it would be to launch a refrigerator from a sub or a VLS on a Burke. Air launched would be easier.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if somewhere in Mexico you'll find a school but fitted with a Williams engine assembled with parts pulled from a Tijuana junkyard, but I doubt it's something many peace freaks would want to commute in.
