Hate to tell you but you are VERY Misinformed. It supplies propane to the U.P. and oil to the refineries in Indiana and Ohio.
As long as a pipeline water crossing over or under a water body wholly within the US states is concerned, as long as specific engineering standards are conformed to, this is a rubber stamp approval by the Corps of Engineers. That really chafes the EPA and environmental activist types.
In this case of the Mackinac Strait though, the are US-Canada treaties regarding the Great Lakes. I sounds like these treaties could be complicating things. If that is not the case though, anyone (Indian tribes, etc) having problems are going to have a legal rough time blocking this.
This Enbridge pipeline is a major source of crude oil to the upper Midwest towards the east coast and Ontario. Sarnia, Ontario was mentioned. Sarnia is a large industrial region across from Detroit and relies on this crude oil supply.
What happens though if this Enbridge Great Lake crossing disappears? Berkshire Hathaway via its Burlington Northern railroad adds some $billions per year to its revenue.
You are also correct. Thank you for correcting me.

I read it.
Line 5 supplies 65% of propane demand in the Upper Peninsula, and 55% of Michigan's statewide propane needs.
It also moves light crude oil to the refineries in Detroit, Toledo and Sarnia.
Oil companies in northern Michigan add their pumped oil to the line in Lewiston.
The only alternative to Line 5 is a flotilla of trucks to replace the 540,000 barrels-a-day capacity of Line 5.
There's a lot of that going on these days. Respect for admitting your mistake.
I was wrong.. Not sure where I got it.
Probably a lefty site disguised as a Michigan site.

At least you can admit that you were duped. There are a lot of people that can’t.
I can’t believe how much the idiots here in Michigan fall for the shut it down mantra. Shutting down that line would be a disaster for Michigan.
Props to you. If only we could all admit our mistakes and submit pride. A lot less arguing and a lot more actual debate.
They have a very clever campaign. I love the Straits very deeply so that was my weakness.
