Because once you give you give forever and what starts out as a great cause becomes the NRA.
I think what is more important is what we as a society and as individuals do, than what the federal government does, and to that end organizations like Tunnels to Towers ARE representing AMERICANS and how we feel better than the federal government is capable of doing without butchering all that they do.
Like the VA “health care”. It would better to give vets a card, just like an insurance card, and let them take all their medical needs to the private sector. It may sound like it would “cost more” but my bet is it would cost less than the bloated VA costs.
Yep. Back in the day (before the income tax) people that needed help were taken care of by neighbors, churches, and some national aid groups. They were taken care of by society - the true meaning of “it takes a village”.
Now those roles have been taken over by the government. In the guise of “helping”, but really it is for power, and to get rid of society. I’m not sure if it was intentional or not when it started, but by the time of FDR it was a means of gaining power. And it continues to this day.
They exist not because they need to exist, they exist because people want them to exist.
The donations are voluntary.
Why does Starbucks exist when everyone can go to the store and but instant coffee for much less?
Because want to buy it.
There are new ads about a large development of these homes in Florida, after a (seriously) large anonymous donation, and pondered if it was from Rush.
Left the service in 69, VA called me in early 70 for a physical and I received a base rating which was so needed as a 21 yr old just out of service, married and a child. Then I forgot all about VA. Fast forward to 2000 30 years later. Employed the whole time with employer health care. Never a thought about the VA. Then the problem of 30 yr old wounds started cropping up. Finally lost employment, trouble moving and walking so after 30 years went back to VA. The did an exam , told me I should have been given a 100 rating long ago and was re rated at 100. The problem back then was the lack of knowing anything about the VA system. Really was no outreach or easy access living hundreds of miles away from facilities. Now 50 something years later, still can’t walk right or move or breathe, but know the system at least. Glad the current vets have the access and tools they need.
I keep getting mail wanting donations. Maybe they should use their ‘fancy’ mailing expenses for a their own cause.
Franklin Graham, last time I looked, was pulling about $1 million a year split between his two charities.
