I got picked up by an Uber driver and was in a Maverick last weekend. It rode great. First one I’ve ever been in.

A unibody pickup with 4 doors, is just a car without a trunk lid.

Supposedly based on the RAV4/Venza platform, and possibly called Stout.

I was in a Dealership this week - A woman came in and said she was looking for a Maverick and wanted to know if she could order one. She never asked about the price.

I presume this is to compete with the Honda Ridgeline. I think Ford’s idea here is interesting but not a fan of the name that gave it for those of us old enough to remember.

“The real reason is Ford doesn’t make much $$$ on the Maverick. Same reason they stopped selling cars is the same reason they are stopping the maverick”

Ford is run by used car salesman, used car salesman with average at best products these days. They made a huge deal of releasing the Maverick with a sub 20k MSRP. Of course to do so they had an absurd $1500 destination fee. How can you trust a used car salesman operation selling new product?

I had a Mercury Comet, back in the day. As far as I could tell, the tail lights were different. Maybe the interior, a little bit. It wasn’t souped up, though.
Not a bad car, but that was back in the day…

I now drive a 2015 Ford Focus. Had the tranny replaced, didn’t cost me a penny.
It’s all good now. I just wish it was a 6 instead of a 4-banger.

When I was in business too much demand was a good thing. What’s the real story or are morons running Ford?

“... instant best-seller upon its debut, accounting for about 73% of U.S. vehicle sales in 2022.”

Is that so?

They can’t keep up with demand so they discontinue it. Brilliant! Who runs that place?

My assessment is simpler. Ford under priced it. They will give it a new name and add $10k to the sticker price.

"Anyone buying any Ford is buying a peck of trouble down the road."

All makes have lemons. Ford is as good as GM or Chrysler. The only brand I would say my have better quality is a domestically manufactured foreign brand.

But compare that to how much they make on an F150 or Ranger.

Like Microsoft, they don’t look at doing anything unless they can make $1Billion on that business.

So if you are happy making $1500 delivery fee then start your own small truck company and go for it.

Maverick was a Mexico build.

Well then, it may have other problems. But snark aside, I can appreciate the time it takes to design, engineer, build and roll out a new vehicle. Then market and sell them. Ford probably had been working on this for many years - priced before Pandemic. Now, I suggest, it's just not economically sound to continue as they had planned. But I can't imagine anyone with any lick of sense, let alone anyone who is a CEO or product manager or business/marketing/economics student who would conclude "demand is too strong so let's discontinue the product". Absolutely contrary to all economic sense. But that seems to be the new normal.
