Significantly, Toyota was first to market with a workable Hybrid with the Prius. They have been making the Prius since 1997 and have built almost 3 million EVs - more than all other put together.

Pretty sure Toyota has a good grasp on the potential of EVs

My uncle a WWII flier in Pacific said he would never buy a Jap car. Around 1970 he said, they make a better car but I am still not buying. In 80 or so, he bought his first Jap car. I asked him about his not buying from the enemy and he said, well the war ended long ago. Before he died in 2014, he said looking at what we have in DC (Obama) I think I was shooting against the wrong people.

Most of the Tacoma production is being moved to Ol Mexico.

My 2012 Tacoma was built in San Antonio
My 1999 & 1988 were both built primarily in JAPAN.

My Massey-Ferguson tractor was built in Japan & GA.

My Panasonic 42” plasma was built in Japan

My 1980 something clock radio still working was built in Japan.

My 1977 8-track/Stereo by Panasonic that is on the bench in my garage and still cranks was made in Japan.

notice the pattern

How can it be that a Japanese CEO is more plugged in to the tastes, preferences and buying habits of American car buyers than those based here at home?

That's easy. They actually care about their customers.

In 1974 my friend sold his Ford Maverick and bought a Toyota Corolla. He got some ridicule from people. His reply was, “I’ll buy American, if you’ll fix it!.”

Throughout most of my life I have maintained my own cars, down to rebuilding engines, transmissions, carburetors, brake cylinders, etc. I still help out my children and grandchildren with their vehicles.

I have never done my own work on my new vehicles while they were under warranty.

So if Eloi means “judgment, sense, and wisdom”, then color me Eloi.

The Toyoda family started Toyota.

They changed the name from Toyoda to Toyota so it would not seem to be a "family" business, which I've heard was considered not a good thing in Japan, decades ago. I've also heard that "Toyoda" and "Toyota" sound more different in Japanese than they do in English.

GM - Government Motors. Who needs it?

A good direction signal is the opposite direction of whatever the rogue unconstitutional government says. Worked for NOT taking the vaccine and works here.

What is the stupid government there for anyway? One reason. To KILL people. Government kills people real good.

The only difference is the feds were installed to defend the US from foreign invaders. However, an unconstitutional and unlimited government will quickly turn their killing apparatus on their own citizens, as we’ve seen in China, Russia, and Nazi Germany, and like what we’re seeing here today.

Actually, the last character in their family name can be read either "TA" (always read that way at the beginning) or "DA" (usually read that way at the end, but plenty of exceptions).

Either way, it means rice paddy, the mark of a farm family name. In the old days, farmers were just one rung below the Samurai on the hierarchical ladder.

What does it matter where they're made

Some people understand that making things in America for the American market is a good thing. Some people don't understand that shipping our manufacturing capability overseas is a bad idea.

Now ... If you've been following the thread, you know where Toyota cars and trucks are made, so there's little else to say.

My wife has a 2010 Camry hybrid.

Other than routine maintenance and tires over the years, maybe a thousand dollars or so of actual repairs. Most of that was some element of the charging system. That was a couple of years ago.

The return to petrol vehicles will come as soon as the electric infrastructure crashes and burns. It will be sooner rather than later. They won’t get to 30%.

There's actually a lot more to be said but an understanding of the wealth creation in the voluntary cooperation between buyers and sellers without government interference in the market economy (The Free Market Economy) is needed.

Camry. Older model.

Any detailed reasoning would help me.

Thanks.

I have never done my own work on my new vehicles while they were under warranty.

Yes, because that would probably invalidate the warranty.

I'm talking about older vehicles.

I still help out my children and grandchildren with their vehicles.

Yes, we do. :)

You are CAPABLE of servicing your own vehicles, so you are not an Eloi. You're a Morlock.

"Incidentally, as this "woke" green energy fad fades into the sunset, ... the American auto companies ... better not come begging for yet another taxpayer bailout."

Oh, you can bet that this will absolutely happen.
