This is NYC, brother! I know a guy who had squatters that the city dragged out in court for THREE YEARS. The lost rent and damages were over $110k.
You’re right and it’s a sad state of affairs that the state can come after you for something you have no control over.
Are the finds applicable if there is no one living there?
If you’re not paying enough attention to it for squatters to move in and get entrenched that’s really on you.
Again, how are you supposed to get in to do repairs when you have illegal squatters that snuck in during the night and clipped all the alarm systems? The city protects them and you can’t evict them especially during moratoriums.
I don’t have property in NYC itself but am on forums where people do. I only have rental property in upstate NY. If these insane anti private property laws get passed in CA and NY they tend to spread elsewhere.
