This distortion is no different from the mendacity broadcast constantly in the news media, Hollywood, from politicians, everywhere. There's a narrative; everything is made to fit the narrative. Truth be damned!
And worst of all, millions of people are unintelligent enough to accept the narrative and believe the propaganda. They are the useful idiots who endanger all of us.
Contempt for truth--truth for its own sake--is the evil most fundamental to the decadence of Western Civilization and the greatest threat to the USA and the general welfare.
The embrace and acceptance of TRUTH--TRUTH for its own sake--wherever and however it presents itself--is the foundation of Western Civilization, the source of all the miraculous benefits Western Civilization has brought to the world, the sine qua non of science, and the pathway to enlightenment.
We are truly caught in a Manichaean struggle between the forces of evil, darkness, mendacity, and propaganda on the one hand--and on the other hand, all that is good: light, truth, benevolence, wisdom, compassion, self-awareness, and enlightenment.
Truth for its own sake is the pathway to all that is good. We must take that pathway.

One of my ancestors was captain of an infantry company from Ohio. He was captured and spent 18 months in Andersonville prison. He miraculously survived to return to his home and lived a long-ish life, perpetuating the name and brand.
