Ukrainian police give children presents in Russian destroyed villages to celebrate St. Nicholas Day

Despite the ongoing war in Ukraine, children in the country’s east had some joy and Christmas mood as police officers treated them with presents to mark St. Nicholas Day.

A police unit visited two villages in Donetsk region, Sviatohirsk and Lyman, which mostly emptied out as civilians fled the region, but some families with children decided to stay.

During a festive celebration with a man dressed in a St Nicholas costume, police handed out gift boxes with candies, toys, sportswear and first aid kits inside to the children.

The 10-month-old conflict in Ukraine is the biggest in Europe since World War Two, killing tens of thousands of people, driving millions from their homes and reducing cities to ruins.

There is seldom a time when there is not some kind of immense human suffering happening in our world. The trauma of war rages in many nations at the moment, and there is immense tension and anxiety with what has been unfolding in Ukraine. As many of you will be aware, we have a chapter of God’s Squad in Ukraine. This personal connection with suffering magnifies the reality and painful truth of the darkness in our world.

The situation they are enduring is as dark as you think it might be. The families of many within our community of our Ukrainian chapter have been on the road to safer regions in the west. Some of our members however remain in the heart and heat of a very hostile and dangerous environment. They remain working hard, not just for themselves but for their community, in a variety of challenging environments.

Like all in Ukraine, and other areas of war and oppression, their families have been separated, their children are seeing things children should not see and their young people are having to grow into adults before their time. Their suffering is an unfolding daily trauma and it is a dangerous situation for sure – but despite the uncertainty, our people and the nation remain resolute.

Most of our families are safe. We know that our community of God’s Squad in Ukraine are deeply committed to the cause of Christ, we know that they are not just looking out for themselves but for those around them also. We know too that, as we have seen over the years of our visits to Ukraine, they are people of immense faith, also possessing, like most Ukrainians, an incredible resourcefulness and strength of character that has been forged through trials.

We pray for them – and we also pray for friends in Russia who are being oppressed for standing up against this war. We are very grateful to those of our friends and supporters who have been inquiring as to the welfare of our Ukrainian chapter. We have passed these messages on to our community of members and their families. Thank you for these. We are working to do everything we can to support them and those they are caring for.

Sometimes words fail us. Sometimes we need the gift of an artist to guide us in our prayers and response. What follows is a poem called ‘I No Longer Pray for Peace’ by Ann Weems, which we understand was written for Ash Wednesday in 2003, which falls on 2 March this year. It seems remarkably relevant for our times.

Forbes has published an article attempting to dismiss concerns over extremism among the ranks of Ukraine’s armed forces as Russian propaganda, but admits that it had been a problem that Ukraine has since “fixed.”

Unfortunately, a screenshot included in the article is from a video that proves exactly the opposite - that extremism in Ukraine’s armed forces is worse than ever and openly benefiting from Western weapons and equipment flooding the country.

At the start of the war Ukraine had, at least on paper, a well equipped military:

Ukraine has a lot of tanks and is ranked 13th across the globe with 2,430. In terms of armored vehicles, Kiev also ranks high, occupying the seventh spot globally with 11,435. Kiev’s artillery power is also formidable at 2,040 batteries.

That General Zaluzhny requested all that new stuff is a confession that most if not all the old stuff is gone. That includes the weapons he received after the war started. If the 20 percent of the Russian military that was used in Ukraine could do so much material damage in such a short time how long would a NATO army in a war against Russia survive?

Rescuers of Dnipropetrovsk received 500 fire kragív (special protective gloves) and 2000 modern fire and rescue belts purchased by the support of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine. Crags and fire belts are required by rescuers to safely and effectively work in emergency elimination sites. Rescuers in Dnipro and the region will be equipped with equipment.

I pray the Ukraine stands down and negotiates with Russia.   That they arrest their criminal government leaders that took bribes from President Biden and his RICO family.   I pray that the FBI, CIA, State Department and all loose cannon governmental agencies are cleaned out and made responsible to the people.

I pray that the United States and NATO will end this ill conceived scheme of throwback Cold War pique to overthrow the Russian Government.

I pray that Ukraine ends the persecution of its Russian heritage countrymen in the Donbas region.   I pray for autonomous control of the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic.

I pray for Russia to ally with the United States, against Global Chinese Hegemony, to continue our shared mission in space, to check Islamic Terrorism, to reign in the radical "Wokeism" and the decadence that is plaguing our Western Civilization.   I pray in the name of Jesus.

If the 20 percent of the Russian military that was used in Ukraine could do so much material damage in such a short time how long would a NATO army in a war against Russia survive?

Ha, I can suppose that's a serious question. And let's remove these US from this, since that's such an absurdly one-sided comparison.

Russia could easily defeat Turkey, Estonia, Latvia, the little countries on their border. Sure. But beyond that? I highly doubt it. Simple logistics, Russia doesn't have much capability to project power. Their only threat beyond 50-100 miles past their border is long-range missiles, most of which are likely not capable of launching, much less hitting an intended target. No way Russia can get materiel deep into Earope without it getting hit from somewhere. No beans, no bullets, no gas, no Army.

Ukraine is full of crappy old Soviet equipment, and so is Russia. With soldiers that aren't that well trained on their gear, although the Ukes have greatly improved since the bear took Crimea. But they're still not much compared to western equipment and sensor systems. Poland might have a bit of trouble, but I doubt Russia could beat even them. Much less also Germany, Britain, or even France. The Brits may not have aircraft working on their carrier, but at least it doesn't need a tugboat to make it out of the harbor! You say it only took 20% of Russia to *destroy* Ukraine, when that 20% includes some of Russia's best fighting forces, and it could barely get 100 miles into Ukraine, at best. And Russia HAS to keep at least 30% of it's forces ready on the China border, because do you really think we'll stop them when China takes the opportunity to "help" us by invading Russia? So really, Ukraine has eaten up probably half of Russia's effective combat power, not just 20%. Russian Navy can barely hold a pond against a country with effectively no navy. How do you expect them to do much of anything in the north? (I'd ignore the Pacific, as I'm pretty sure these US is the only NATO power capable of doing much on that side of Russia, and we're ignoring us.) Norway? Sweden? has the fancy subs that "sank" the US carrier, what do you think they'd do to the entire Russian navy? (Yes, I'm aware the US carrier group had their ASW capabilities greatly handicapped for the exercise, but those subs are actually pretty decent.) so with no naval support, we're back to the logistics issue again...

Ukraine barely has the capability to strike targets in Russia. I'm sure NATO certainly can, and what do you think Russia's gonna do when the war is no longer outside their borders? Even if just military targets like fuel depots and train tracks get hit, not we're at logistics again...

The actions of Russia’s leader President Putin do not reflect the hearts of the nation’s people. Thousands of Russians have protested Putin’s invasion even as they face arrest.

PRAYER FOR RUSSIAN INVASION OF UKRAINE:

Lord, we pray for:

God’s protection on the Russian people that protested this evil invasion of Ukraine. May so many people continue to protest that Russian prisons cannot hold them all.

We pray for the safety of more than 3.8 million Russians that left the country in just the first three months of 2022 as reported by the FSB. Thousands of Russian have lost their lives under the command of Putin. We pray for both the people of Ukraine and Russia who grieve the loss of their loved ones.

Ukrainian troops as well as Ukrainian civilians have been targeted by Russian military aggression and war crimes. Lord, continue to give courage to the Russian troops to lay down their arms and surrender rather than fight for this evil invasion.

General George Catlett Marshall once said “Military power wins battles, but spiritual power wins wars.”

Almighty God, may the Freedom of Russia Legion be strengthen in their struggle for the New Russia. Help them establish the values of the ‘Free Man’ of New Russia: freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom to choose their own future. Let the Freedom of Russia Legion accomplish their main goal to sabotage and overthrow Putin’s regime as they continue to use their underground to strike within Russia.

We pray for you to empower Ukraine as their nation battles for freedom. Grant them your supernatural wisdom and strength to confound the schemes of those that plot against them. Inhibit the Russian supply chains from delivering military supplies to their front-lines. Continue to let the Russian weapons malfunction.

WE PRAY that Putin be AWAKENED to the great evil he has committed of his “Special Military Operation” to invade Ukraine for his own glory and political ambitious fantasy as a s teptoward reconstruction of the Russian Empire.
