Russia is a weak power and has no real army! Rah Rah Hero Ukraine! They have won the war! Send more weapons, more Billions!—We can throw money at the Russians. Sorry NYT but your propaganda is starting to wear thin. In real terms—this is like WW I and this is only 1915. Lets see how popular the war is in 2027 with a whole generation of people lost and governments toppled and radicals take over. When this is done—there will be no Kings left, all that was will be historic left overs to be burned.

Here is a reason, maybe not the only one, but certainly of some importance.

In 2012, Ukraine signed exploration contracts with some US major oil companies. It was believed they would find oil and gas in the sea around Crimea, and in the Donbas and nearby oblasts. It was also known that if the expected deposits were found and developed they could be sold to Europe with a lot more enthusiasm than feelings about buying oil and gas from Russia. It took a little while for Putin to get organized, but the 2014 invasion of Crimea, and the ongoing activities of the “little green men”, Russian mercenaries, in Donbas and neighbors was his response. The answer to Putin’s power play was cancelation of the oil exploratory contracts.

The fact that Putin has had no interest in capturing the cities and towns intact, makes sense if his only interest is in the underground resources. His total destruction of Mariupol and severe tretment of other cities has shocked the international community, He held off a long time on destroying the steel mill where Ukraines soldiers were hiding indicated to me he probably hoped to retain that factory to process captured resources. I hope this information is helpful. Places like Chechnya or Georgia had little of direct utility for Europe, but Ukraine is directly connected to NATO countries and others we support. It is clear that Putin/Russia is committed to conquest. Read the link below about the ideologue who influences Putin’s thinking and is taught in Russian military schools.

This was written in 1997 by Alexandr Dugin, whose daughter was killed earlier this year when she was driving his car, which he had exited moments earlier, when it exploded. Read his 10 point plan for Europe, and the other ideas he has for controlling much of the rest of the world.

Thank you for this paywall free article. It is very, very long and has much detail and documentation with information ranging from high diplomatic levels to lowly wounded and emprisoned troops. It is white print on black background. There are a lot of blank spaces where photos or maps should have appeared. You will know you are at the bottom when you see a bar that reads something like “333 comments” which I cllicked but never saw any comments.

I didn't want this war. Putin invaded Ukraine, because he wishes to undo what he called the greatest tragedy in history, the end of the Soviet Union.
I am not a neoconservative and I have no love of the Ukranians. I have been national conservative since 1998. I debated for and voted for PAt Buchanan in 2000. I am a generation removed from being a Galician Jew. My father and his family were partisans fighting the ONU Banderists and Nazi collaborators. And like other Poles, my family were ethnically cleansed for the expansion of the USSR and Ukraine. My feelings are irrelevent. Ukraine is fighting a just war of self defense and their victory is ours. It stops Russian advance towards NATO nations. It weakens the Russian-Iranian-Chinese alliance. And it helps deter China. American national interest is served. Light Loafers Graham is irrelevent. I've contributed to his Republican challengers.
