Pretty much right on the mark, except it is a more powerful coercion than just wanting to “be part of the cool in-crowd..” Especially among college age females, who are the most suggestible demographic, these institutions enact a strong cancel culture at the individual level for not conforming to the prescribed narrative. Identifying as lgbt is de rigeur at the very least, and necessary for survival in the hostile milieu in the case of many “womens” colleges such as those noted in the article.
