The brits resisted subsidy spending in the Depression and exited it long before the war. They were up and running and able to stand alone for just awhile. We did not exit the Depression until and because of the war putting us back to work but that was still financed by the war.

Democrats in power cause pain.
Repubs in power cause less pain.
