We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.

That is a great question. But I view the root of that as a fundamental cleavage point between Leftism and Conservatism. This goes to the heart of the matter of why we cannot and do not approach issues the same way as the Leftists.

It is why, with the election problems, we cannot simply adopt the tactics of the Left and play by those rules they use to unfairly win elections. It is because of this fundamental cleavage point in our belief systems.

The problem I see is that we as Conservatives are not dependent on "skulls full of mush" as Rush used to say. We aren't interested in indoctrinating people. We don't want to fill those empty skulls with our needs and wants. We want people to voluntarily think about things, and do what they think is in their own best interest.

Now, it might be in their best interest (in their minds) to not have a job and get a government dole, to be a thief and steal, to suppress the speech of those you dislike, to prohibit the sale and ownership of firearms, to pay more taxes, to allow government to supply all the solutions, and so on.

There are absolutely people who think those things ARE in their best interest.

We want people to be able to think things through for themselves and understand, to want those rational things in their hearts and minds, instead of having someone tell them what is best for them.

Having someone decide for you is The Road to Serfdom.

• We want people to understand the intrinsic value of work. There is value there in self reliance and accomplishment that can NEVER be given by grants of money. We, as humans NEED to do things, and there is accomplishment and satisfaction in being self-reliant.
  
  
• We want people to understand that stealing and lawlessness only erodes, it doesn't build. Because if you steal or loot, there are always bigger fish in the water that will steal from you and ruin your life.
  
  
• We want people to understand that the freedom of being able to speak your mind is invaluable freedom, and having that right taken away by people or a government is tyranny. And it makes you respect freedom, because it forces you to extend that forebearance to people you dislike or messages you find poisonous.
  
  
• We want people to understand that depending on others to protect you is fine if that is your choice, but depending on human frailty to protect you ensures that you will be exposed and mistreated or injured when the protector declines or is unable to protect you.
  
  
• We want people to understand that personal freedom and economic freedom are inextricably intertwined, and one cannot exist without the other. And since you know best how to spend your money, having excessive money taken from you by the government and spent irresponsibly is tyranny, so the less taken from you in taxes the better.
  
  
• We want people to understand that bloated, overreaching government is tyranny, because it will always have some government task or law to fulfill/enforce or some government job given out as a benefit to buy votes, and those tasks and cushy jobs multiply like rats to encroach on your freedom

If people are given the unadorned information and tools to think it out on their own, they can come to the right conclusions. We cannot FORCE the love of freedom. It has to be understood and felt.

Otherwise, it is no different than Orwell's O'Brien torturing Winston in his work "1984" to the point that Winston actually does love Big Brother and feels it in his heart. Right up to and including the point where the bullet enters his brain. Because that describes Leftism and their tactics in a nutshell.

I do believe we are different. Which makes it harder for us. Leftists overcome opposition and laziness in people by making it so uncomfortable for them that they believe, because it is easier.

I believe the Democrats keep calling us a Democracy instead of a Democratic Republic because under a Democracy the East Coast and West Coast would essentially be the governing body of the US which is what they want.

It is true.

The founders viewed “Democracy” as abhorrent, unworkable, and something to be avoided at all costs.

Which is one of the reasons we have the representative government we do. They wanted to avoid the “Rome” problem, where anyone wanting to do anything simply went straight to Rome and avoided everywhere else.

Today, candidates are forced by necessity to vist less populated or influential areas because they cannot be ignored. If we go to a popular vote which is 100% a Democrat/Leftist goal, then the population centers will be the only places that count, and the only ones that politicians will campaign in.

Boy.
