To safely assume Russia’s nukes won’t work is exceptionally ignorant and arrogant.
Have you seen the material and readiness condition of our military lately?
One thing you can be assured of, if every rifle has worn barrels, if every warship is rusted on the pier, if every aircraft is grounded waiting for replacement parts, the nukes will have been maintained and will work.
And even if only half of them work, that’s more than enough to bring hell on Earth for everyone.
And ABC’s Martha Raditz told us that Donald Trump and his policies would get us into another world war.

Joe Biden is setting the stage to set off a Nuke and blame it on Russia. And then the fun begins.
Once upon a time, both the US and USSR conducted “combat” tests of their ICBM forces, firing them no-notice from operational silos to test readiness. Both the US and USSR suffered a string of catastrophic missile failures. So we both stopped that practice, and now when the US tests an ICBM, we pull it from its operational silo, send it to Vandenberg AFB, and spend several weeks making sure it’s in working order before firing. The Russians do same with their test flights. The current Russian ICBM force has been in service since 1987, through decades of poor funding for maintenance, amidst the rampant corruption of the Russian state. I expect a large percentage of both the Russian and US ICBM forces to fail to work. My Dad, who had a SIOP clearance and worked in nuclear war planning, used to tell me that “A lot of things have to work RIGHT for an ICBM to work, and a lot of things can go wrong.”
But while a significant percentage may not work, all it takes is a few to work to cause a catastrophe. It will not go well for us, or for the world as a whole. Let’s just not.

Putin doesn’t have to send military to conquer Europe. He can sit in his Ural Mountain palace and control Europe by threatening their energy supply: gas/oil/nuclear power plants for electricity.

I really do not want to die in a nuclear war. I do not want to spend the last 20 to 30 minutes of my life in abject terror wondering when or where the bomb’s going to go off. I don’t want to burn in nuclear fire. And if in the off chance I survive, I don’t want to spend the next few hours, days, or longer dying from thirst, hunger, or radiation poisoning.
Am I scared out of my mind? You betcha.

My plan should the klaxons go off, and I’ve been contemplating this for about 40 years, since I grew up on B-52 bases:
I will have my pistol with me when I go down to the basement with my cats and a 5th of bourbon. If I’m not vaporized, but I do take a close miss and am badly dosed with radiation, I will shoot my cats first, and then myself. Pistol to be kept very near to hand, because if you are dosed badly, your motor responses won’t be very good, and it will be an effort to get anything done. End it quickly. Nothing but a horrific death awaits you otherwise.

You mistake my suggestion. Putin WANTS to USE the energy to his advantage to you misunderstood me or perhaps I didn’t articulate plainly:

This possibility for Putin monopolization of the energy market came to me after reading these articles on recent events:
He may threaten nuclear weapons, but his dream is to be Emperor of Energy. So, he has little desire to destroy what he wants to control.

For much of the past twenty years the United States fought a two-front war in the Middle East that most Americans forgot was even happening. Life at home did not change one iota.
They turn on the news today and only hear of Ukrainian victories and Russian calamities. They believe another war thousands of miles away will also be unfelt at home. A small volunteer military will surely bring victory. Not a football game will be missed. Not a shopping mall will close.
Russia is only now beginning to mobilize for total war. They’ve been fighting a restrained effort that has brought them all too often humiliation and setbacks but at some point the gloves will come off in the form of nukes.
Russia isn’t going to lose this war until they’ve played every card and they’ve still got a full deck left of Kings and Aces.
The first nuke will change things. At that point, we’ll see true panic. The grocery stores will empty. Hoarding and inflation will skyrocket. It’ll get real ugly here at home real fast.

Excellent comment. We have backed a bear into a corner. And it will do anything and everything it has too in order to get out of that corner. It doesn’t matter who wins on the ground over there. Our own Grandchildren here will actually be the real losers in the end.
