There’s ‘no evidence’ showing that politics were involved in an incident where a man fatally struck a teenager with his SUV following what he admitted was a ‘political argument.’ Cognitive dissidence. Very likely that both of those statements cannot be true at the same time.
If it was an “accident”, why did the victim phone his Mom telling her he was being chased moments before he was mowed down?
Killer (alleged) could say “All the MAGA extremist Trump supporters look alike to me.”

Wow! I had no idea about his judgement. Didn’t know that federal hate crime charges could lead to the death penalty, either.

There was definitely a prior interaction of some kind because the victim phoned his mom twice about Brandt. The first time was to ask if they (his parents) knew Brandt. The second call was that he’s being chased.
I think what the cops are saying is that they have found no witnesses to corroborate the alleged “political” argument and no friends or acquaintances that corroborate the claim that the victim was a MAGA extremist.
That first phone all could be an indication that the interaction between the two was more personal in some way as yet unknown.

What happened prior to the MURDER shouldn’t matter in this case.
It clearly was not self-defense. The boy wasn’t threatening the man’s life.
He ran a guy down in order to KILL him. -Murder.

The dead guy can’t tell HIS side of it.
In any sane civilization, if you get mad at a person because they think or believe differently from you - enough to hunt them down and kill them, you deserve a noose.
