Spring and fall mud have always meant limited mobility in the Rus.

The Ukrainians and Russians are on equal footing when it comes to weather.

I give the edge to Ukraine because they get arms and equipment from NATO while the Russians got the crappy stuff. They rely on their railroads to get their equipment and if their troops aren't near a track, they're $#it out of luck. Even posted on article on FR about this a while ago.

Time to look at a map for the last week, ISW, Deepstate, or Liveuamap. Ukraine is on the Lyman city limits. There is a salient at Bilohorivka, 5 to 10 km away from Lysychansk and Severodonetsk. Ukraine does not have far to go to get to the two major cities and transit hubs in the western Luhansk Oblast. That will open up a lot of options to recover Northeast Ukraine and cut off Russia in the south.

Then there are these in the mix, the FV103 Spartan (Cheeky British Armored Vehicle is Better Than You Think). It was designed in the 1970s as a second generation armored personnel carrier, armed reconnaissance and light tank. They weight 8 to 10 tons and have a ground pressure of 5 PSI, which is less than a average human footprint. FV103s are know for the exceptional speed and off road mobility. The trade off is, armament for any verison is limited and heavy machine gun can pentrate the armor.

As to how useful they are, Ukraine put them to good use spearheading the Kharkiv offensive. Despite Russian propaganda, Ukraine still has them. Winter does not change that Ukraine is getting really close to having advantageous position over northeastern Ukraine.
