They’ve been photographing all mail for years. Probably started so they could track down dangerous mail and drug-related stuff.

The government cannot resist the temptation to misuse any data that they collect. And so they are now using it to identify and monitor biden’s enemies.

They weren’t stopped when we found out that all phone calls are intercepted and scanned. They didn’t stop when we found out that Facebook and other social media scan and monitor anything that anyone posts or sends on their platform.

So it’s only natural to expect that they would use the USPS to ferret out those evil Trump supporters.

USPS is just trying to move into the next century.

The OLD model: "Snail Mail" hard copies of information hand-delivered by uniformed public service employees.

The NEW model: It's all "Mail", whether it's on paper or electronic. E-mail, Texting, Instant Messaging, it's all "MAIL" now, administered and monitored by the USPS. How you buy "stamps" - that is the fee for each transaction - still to be determined.

Of course, ballots are "MAIL" too.

There was a one-season reality show, “Hunted,” where 2-person teams of ordinary folks tried to outsmart the FBI, US Marshalls, etc., and not be found for several weeks. I think there were 9 teams and 2 made it through to the end. Law enforcement got on the trail of one team through the mail. The show showed how mail is scanned. LE asked for a list of the mail being sent by family and friends and in checking out those addresses was able to find a location where one of the teams had been hiding, but that team had already moved to a new location. It was very interesting seeing the various methods LE used, and seeing how people’s habits (like a love of Taco Bell) would be what led to their being found.

How Congress Manufactured a Postal Crisis — And How to Fix it

“In 2006, Congress passed a law that imposed extraordinary costs on the U.S. Postal Service. The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act (PAEA) required the USPS to create a $72 billion fund to pay for the cost of its post-retirement health care costs, 75 years into the future. This burden applies to no other federal agency or private corporation.”

“If the costs of this retiree health care mandate were removed from the USPS financial statements, the Post Office would have reported operating profits in each of the last six years. This extraordinary mandate created a financial “crisis” that has been used to justify harmful service cuts and even calls for postal privatization. Additional cuts in service and privatization would be devastating for millions of postal workers and customers.

—————————————

The government pulled numbers - and a methodology - out of thin air to pass the bill. The USPS had always been an independent agency. Now the ‘independent’ part is on paper only. The idea of an actual independent body is offensive to the Derp State/intel/surveillance apparatus. (Hasn’t the U.S. come a long way!). We can now expect to see the USPS as a regular player in the spoon-fed media narratives, especially those relating to elections.

“Adopt generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP accounting as set forth by the Financial Accounting Standards Board) for determining USPS liabilities”

“USPS mandated post-retirement health care reserves must be based on “actual vested liability,” not on “total projected liability” as they are now. This is the difference between allowing a credit card holder to pay the charges they accrue each month, rather than requiring them to create a holding account for all of the expenses they expect to charge over a lifetime.”

“Basing the mandate on earned and vested benefits, rather than the hypothetical formula currently in place, would reduce USPS’s accumulated retiree health fund deficit by $41 billion.

What this amounted to was a strong-arm by the government via Congress to get the postal service to play along with government/intel/surveillance state shenanigans. The USPS held out until this year. They caved because they didn’t have a choice.

“… gun rights activists in Virginia …”

I am a member of the Virginia Citizens Defense League,

https://vcdl.org/?

so I am surely on the Post Office watch list. They haven’t interfered with any mailing from them, but they’re compiling a list, I’m sure.

"They’ve been photographing all mail for years. Probably started so they could track down dangerous mail and drug-related stuff." No,USPS has been photographing all mail for years because that's how mail has been processed for years. The address block is photographed by one part of a bar code sorter in order for the optical character reader software to convert the address into an eleven digit barcode which is sprayed onto the mailpiece. The bar code reader part of the machine then tells the machine which gate to open, sorting the piece to the correct bin. For letters and flats (magazine sized pieces) mail is run a second time to place the pieces in walk sequence order, eliminating the need for the carrier to sort by hand. Don't tell anybody, but private mailing houses do this too in order to qualify for presort discounts under "work share" programs, sorting, printing, packaging and labelling mail for delivery.
