I spent four months in Milan and there is a big difference between American pizza and Italian pizza. When Italians serve your wafer thin pizza, they drizzle olive oil on top. The pies are 15” in diameter which seems too large for a single person but are not due to they’re not built like the Brady, fat Chicago style. The cheeses are very different from the processed crap we get here.

Most pizza in Italy had a soggy crust.
A Little Off Topic:
Last week I discovered something most probably know already;
If you eat your pasta Al Dente; or somewhat firm vs soggy;
the pasta is much, much easier to digest!! And it still tastes good, in a firm, Chow Mein kind of way, where the pasta itself holds a flavor.
I wanted to shout it from the rooftops, but it was kind of late.
Taco Bell did open stores in Mexico and then close them all. Lol.

Dominos is not Detroit-style, which is pretty close to Sicilian pizza and originated with Italian immigrants in Detroit. Dominos is some bastardization of American style. Dominos probably would've had a better chance had they tried a Detroit-style in Italy, lol.
Some time ago I bet that the best pizzas were those of a certain American chain, when I went to Naples I bought a pizza in a small restaurant, and the result is... all my respect for Italian pizza

For the most part it's hard to beat a real pizza in Italy, they're pretty fantastic. There is certainly good pizza in the U.S. but many times it's not what Italians would think of as pizza. That's OK too. However, Domino's has never been what I though of as good pizza, even after their supposed revamp a few years ago where they claimed they improved it. I couldn't tell any difference, it still pretty much sucked. I'm not going to say I'm above ordering Domino's when I'm stuck in a hotel on a business trip and it's the only thing nearby, but I would never intentionally seek it out. I can't imagine anyone picking Domino's over a real italian pizza so I'm astonished anyone ever though they could ever make Domino's work there.
We lived In Pozzuoli just outside of Naples for three years when I was a “tween.”
They don’t do a lot of toppings, but the blend of tomato sauce, cheese and seasonings and the crust make those pizzas perfection! I never had a bad pizza there, but my favorite was a little hole in the wall across the street from us.
Once or twice a month, our parents would give my brother and me some lire and send us across the street for a couple of pies for dinner. We’d play foosball while they made our pizzas. Mom would whip up a salad and that was one of our favorite meals.
Italian American is NOT Italian. No offense meant to anyone. It’s just a fact.
Donatos is good, probably not by Italians standards though.

Very true. Eating a pizza,
with a nice glass of red wine, while overlooking the Paleo in Sienna is one of life’s rare treats.
It might have been a tourist trap right there. Need to go where the locals frequent.
