The first firearms can be traced back to 10th century China. The Chinese were the first to invent gunpowder, and historians typically credit the first guns as being weapons the Chinese called fire lances.
The fire lance was a metal or bamboo tube attached to the end of a spear. The tube was filled with powder and shrapnel, which was then set off at the beginning of a battle to try and gain an advantage. It worked like a combination of a flamethrower and a shotgun, expelling flames and pellets at the enemy target. Fire lances gradually became closer in concept to shotguns as powder improved.

“It’s a slow humiliating dangle and strangle.”
Another habit must have been picked up from the G.I.s during the occupation.
Hardly.
Most of the world is a slow dangle and strangle.
In Iran, to cite just one example of many, the condemned are hoisted up by crane so the people in back of the crowd get the full show of the victim, eyes bugging out, face swollen and purple, anguished choking, kicking and flailing.
It makes a better object lesson...
...more popcorn, anyone?
At the end of WWII, the US performed its war executions in slow fashion, in stark contrast with the Brits who finished them off quickly. Kind of a statement...
Abe was not well liked by a majority of Japanese . His push for TPP and “Abenomics” economic plan were big issues for so many Japanese and his raising the consumption tax was a national disgrace and complete failure when you look at the results today.

Do a search on “Luty”. Name of a British guy who tried to show how worthless gun control was by building a submachine gun from stuff at the local hardware store and common tools.
Where are you in Hawaii ? We’ve been to the Big Island 3 times . Loved it .
Unfortunately, I am in Honolulu (edge of Waikiki).
Where did you live when in Japan ?
