In theory, the justices are supposed to decide how to vote after listening to the pleadings, conferencing with each other, and reviewing draft opinions.

For a Supreme Court candidate the correct answer to respecting SCOTUS precedents is only to respectfully hear out any legal arguments supporting a precedent. That’s it. That’s all a candidate should offer about precedents.
