You're right. The U.S.A. and our many allies around the world intent on securing against communist/fascist expansionism need to build up much more (especially nuclear forces) and participate more in exercises and other cooperative preparations. ;D

The very same reason the Russians made the same fool hearty move in Cuba, deterrence. Biden certainly can’t intimidate Xi, stopping a Chinese invasion militarily means certain WWIII. This bunch of traitors and dipshits running things in DC are more than capable of such insanity as stationing nukes on Taiwan. Japan has one very good option to avoid eventual Chinese aggression, an independent nuclear deterrent. A credible retaliatory capability with a Japanese finger on the button will deter the CCP. Any hint of a similar move by Taipei will bring an immediate pre emptive invasion.

A couple of counterpoints to your logic:

1) The president of the Philippines is already cuddling with the CCP. They will not stand against China and may not need to be invaded.

2) Russia and China have recently become allies of convenience. This is why China will not condemn the action in Ukraine. Japan knows this, and that is why they are calling the defense of Taiwan the same as the defense of Japan itself.

Japan will not allow Taiwan to stand alone because Japan will be next.
