They claim the numbers are age adjusted but we’d need to see exactly how they did that. Republican counties skew more rural and older and whiter and a lot of them have been horribly impacted by drugs. Poorer healthcare service, scarcity of doctors, poor emergency service, drugs, and socio-economic differences between urban and rural white citizens probably account for what they found. There is a lot of white poverty in vast stretches of rural America but not much in our big cities. But if we are going to blame policies for what the study found maybe should take a look at what high gas prices do to people living in rural areas. If you can’t afford to drive 40 miles to see a specialist you might just die younger.
