Sad, but your scenario is very likely in these times.
Years ago in Minneapolis, my wife was on the bus coming home from work. A black woman was harassing and hitting a white girl. An older white guy came to the girl’s rescue, the black woman stabbed him in the chest, ran out the back door of the bus, and got away. One time I saw a man smacking his wife or girlfriend around in the parking lot. I told him to stop that, and the wife/girlfriend then encouraged the guy to attack me, he didn’t, but I thought it was a strange reaction from her. Sometimes is doesn’t pay to get involved.
You can bet that if anyone intervened on this woman’s behalf he would have been called a “racist” and probably arrested.

Certainly do, and why should a man have to face risks that she's not willing to? especially an unarmed man because Democrats (and women in New York City vote mostly Democrat) decided to infringe on citizen's inalienable right to keep and bear arms.
