Covid death counts are in decline. This has been true in the US for about 7 weeks now. Globally about the same, and because the US generally has so many, there is a disproportionate US contribution to that global total. From about March 2020, 1,000,008 dead in the US of Covid, globally 6.1 million.
6 million is a big number, and note the US taxpayer did not send any tax money to South Korean hospitals who classified deaths as Covid.
This is not the strong season for Covid. People emerge from indoors, and outdoors there is less confined air to spread particles within. Stronger variant particles around when air conditioning brings people back indoors, their vax and recovered immunity has aged, and people declare they are “done with it” will not be a good thing. The virus won’t care who is done with it.

People vaxed in a very carefully controlled time frame, vs people previously infected also in a very carefully controlled time frame, become infected far less than the recovered folks from a previous immunity.
This would be crushing except for the fact vax loses its strength, and since it was superior at 6 months, so will recovered folks.
Overall conclusion, 2 years in and we have NOTHING to stop this virus. Pathetic.

Useful to recall this was said last April as the winter smash that reached 4000+ deaths/day saw a daily death decline curve head down to a few hundred/day. “It’s over!! End all thinking about it!!!” That was US. Globally many more than 4000/day, and the US govt sent no money to Spain hospitals for classifying deaths as Covid.
Come August, Delta arrived. 2000 deaths/day. Omicron arrived as Delta’s deaths were in decline and jacked that curve up to 3500 deaths/day. I didn’t see much “It’s over! Stop thinking about it” at 3500 deaths/day. Got quiet.
Such talk is reserved for declining curves. Then it goes quiet when the next surge arrives.
New variants always become more contagious. Simultaneously, they become less dangerous - but the MSM can’t get any breathless headlines out of that part.

Folks say a virus that kills 50% of the population would be statistically non advantageous for the virus. It would reduce its numbers. So expect less deadly and not more deadly.
