“...Now the next generation is “entitled” so here we are and this is the $hit we have to deal with.”
But I was talking to a teacher in her mid thirties who was saying that none of her friends have kids and many don’t plan to have kids. Life, at least at first, is easier and cheaper without them. Why have kids when you can spend the money they cost on yourself? She remarked that her friends were living life in their 30s as if they were teenagers. Fifteen years ago my K-8 school had 350 students, now it’s around 260. It’s in a nice area and housing is going up. But young couples are apparently foregoing parenthood.
Millions of Americans alive today got by just fine without cell phones & texting all of their lives.
The ida tht you cannot get in touch with your son thru a middleman is nuts.
If there had been ANY kind of emergency in our family when I was growing up- The sheriff or local police department would have come to us. We were in School during the school days & available during the summer.
We also had a good system for emergencies-—
Using OUR Wall Mounted CRANK PHONE, a special ring sequence meant that everyone on the 20 party line was to PICK UP & ONLY LISTEN to what the emergency was & where it was.
When we had a SMALL electrical fire on the top floor of our dairy barn-—right by the large hay storage for feeding dairy cows in the winter. That system was used-—and 2nd-the volunteer fire department was called from 4 miles away.
Neighbors had the fire out before the fire department got there.
We have created a couple of generations that depend on cell phones & HELP FROM SOMEONE ELSE instead of doing the job ourselves.
It is PATHETIC.
We had schools before cell phones and survived.
Helicopter/blanket parents stunt a child's growth.
That said, I continue to advocate for Public School Abolition.
