My default position is never to trust anything coming out of CNN or any MSM outlet. After the series of false narratives on the COVID pandemic, the 2020 elections, the January 6th Capitol events, and the BLM/Antifa riots, I assume anything they say is a lie. (And if I were to go back before 2020, there are dozens of other disinformation campaigns.)

However, it is possible that the Russian Army is suffering huge losses. Russian and Soviet doctrine has been to throw massive amounts of men irrespective of the cost. It appears that the Russian high command did not expect this level of resistance.
