if true, doesn’t make a lot of sense to me since rubles are worth about as much as monopoly money ... what would putin do with those rubles anyway, since they aren’t worth anything?

To pay in rubles, gas customers need to first buy some rubles. All that ruble buying in the foreign exchange market drives up the price of the ruble, so that Russian citizens don’t feel effects caused by a crashing currency (inflation).

Carlson is not only wrong, he can’t get his head far enough up Putin’s butt hole. He either has some serious confirmation bias, or else he has a pathological need to be contrarian, no matter the subject.
IMO, Tucker Carlson is a smarmy, self-indulgent know-it-all - totally convinced of his own infallability, and without the humility to admit when he’s wrong.
I understand doubting much of anything the MSM or DC beltway crowd has to say; but OTOH, attempting to paint Putin as a saint and Zelenski as a devil - IOW, making all things B&W (Ukraine is full of “Nazis” etc, Putin is an “anti-globalist” white knight, etc.) is just as much a sketchy, biased and over-simplified narrative.
