Russia has deployed the 1st Guard Tanks Division, from Moscow. Arguably the most elite of Russia’s military units.

I think it’s a bad decision. Likely won’t alter the stalled-out drive to Kiev, but could do even more damage to the Russian military credibility.

“Didya read all the way to the end of the paragraph of mine you quoted?”

Yeah, I did. But your last sentence is a throw-away: It’s like saying, if I had never been born, I wouldn’t have (fill in the blank).

Obviously supply lines become an issue with any deep thrust. If you cannot sustain those supply lines, you are screwed. Lack of combined arms coordination is a huge part in this. Lack of ability with follow-on fire support. Lack of ability to meet objectives on-time brings to mind Operation Market Garden. One might have to go all the way back to Hannibal to fully understand this. Regardless, stalemate sets in...and the advantage goes to the home team — provided that they have the willingness to sustain civilian casualties (which they probably do). It is interesting to note that Richard Nixon foresaw this in 1993/94 period of time. He predicted it would be bloodier than Bosnia.
