And they are not going to let go of them without one hell of a fight. And their hired guns, the Police [that members of Free Republic swore would be on our side] will be used to their maximum effect for and by them.

The real concern is that the Ukraine may use it on its own population to smear the Russians. Yes they are that bad.

Don’t mean to disillusion you, but NATO could crush the forces currently deployed. NATO is not a joke. Really. It is well equipped, well trained, with powerful air and naval support. Of course, most of that is us, but there some other fairly effective formations available from other NATO members.
Putin knows this, hence the nuclear brinksmanship.
NATO’s leadership is a joke, though. NATO leadership is a circus and its leaders, political and military, are incompetent clowns.
Putin also know this. That’s why he’s willing to risk invading Ukraine.
I think Putin didn’t blitz Ukraine because he doesn’t want it. He wants Crimea and the Donbas republics. Blitzing Ukraine would have left him with a long-term counter-insurgency campaign - expensive and miserable. People keep forgetting that Russia is NOT a rich country.
I don’t know what the Russians can do if some intelligence agency attempts to implement a false flag chemical attack - it isn’t like the Russians have access to our media to broadcast their side of things. That is one of things I have found most disturbing about the whole thing, the lack of access the Russians have to the media in ostensibly neutral countries.

NATO could crush the forces currently deployed. NATO is not a joke.

Allow me to modify your statement……

The United States could crush the forces currently deployed. The USA is not a joke.

Damn near everything NATO does, on a large scale, is done because of the US military’s logistics machine.

The US military could crush anyone on the planet, times over, if needed and allowed.

Sure, the French can operate small teams of their special forces in some West Africa dump. They can’t wage war.

With regards to the “forces currently deployed”… that’s the operative term isn’t it. Putin isn’t sending in the Varsity. If this escalates, they show up and sh*t goes really really sideways.

At one point the Germans were training with broom handles ….. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/german-army-paints-broomsticks-black-to-resemble-machine-guns-in-nato-exercises-10054468.html%3famp

Maybe that’s changed. Don’t know.

But without the US, NATO and any other peacekeeping force is a joke, if not flat out raping and pillaging.

As for the chemical weapons, you are correct. They’re setting the stage to set him up. And he better have some legit intel or the ability to counter that otherwise he’s toast.

We’ve been prepped for this with the “escalate to deescalate Russian strategy”.

And just wait for the chemical attack. Regardless of who does it.

Folks will be salivating to drop MOABs all over Russia.

Why would they do that, while they're in the middle of negotiations?

I have first hand experience in dealing with Russian NBC warfare...lol.

In 1978, I was in the Wing Command Post at Hahn AB, more specifically the "Eagles Nest", briefing the Wing Commander on the deployment of our Towed Vulcans and Chaparral Missile Systems.

During the middle of my presentation, the NATO Evaluation team drops an NBC input, a chemical attack on Ramstein AB. They bring in the Base Disaster Preparedness Officer, an AF Captain. He was obviously intimidated by the moment, and being surrounded by 5 AF Colonels. He recommended upping the Alert status to Alarm Red, i.e. everybody outside has to put on full protective mask and gear. It's really tough to load bombs and missiles onto F-4s wearing that stuff. lol

Before the Wing Cdr says anything, I speak up, "Colonel, may I make a recommendation?" The room fell silent, as an Army 2nd LT spoke up in a room full of Colonels...lol. What they didn't know, I was the NBC Officer for my battery, fully qualified to render said recommendation.

Before anybody else spoke, I said "Colonel, I recommend Alarm Yellow (no masks or protective gear) for the following reasons: 1, Ramstein is 60 miles southeast, and the winds are westerly. 2. Sarin (the weapon dropped) is a nonpersistent nerve agent. 3. It's raining like hell outside, so the Russians are wasting a perfectly good weapon!"

Wing Commander: I agree, let's go Alarm Yellow. Behind him, I saw the NATO Team Chief nodding his head in approval. 15 minutes later, I hear his voice boom out from the Eagles Nest: "as long as I'm in command, anytime there's an NBC input, I want that Army Lieutenant up here."

It was one of the few highlights of an undistinguished military career...lol.
