I have been there. Fascinating place. As is White Sands National Monument.
We were transported in what we called cattle cars out to our rifle range at White Sands.
We also did gas mask, night training and forced marches as well as bivouac there.
Been there quite a few times.
I lived in Army WSMR base housing while enlisted (E-6 and 7) in the Coast Guard, working “out of rate” of an engine mechanic in an inter-agency law enforcement capacity on Ft Bliss with the DOJ. Great tour. Dodging herds of Oryx on the way to work every morning via the back road into Ft Bliss. Fun-fun-fun!
Was also there in 1966, helping launch instrument packages to 110,000 feet on Skyhook balloons. My first time out of New England, the terrain sure was an eyeopener.

I spent many tours there shooting missiles. Years ago some soldiers planted a tree in the desert, and water truck comes every week to water it. A sign in front of the tree identifies it as the “White Sands National Forest.” That was year ago - wonder if it is still there.
same gag in saudi arabia.. LOL
Been there many times throughout my career.
Did some work there in the early 2000’s. It’s a fascinating place, but everything is at least 20 miles from where you are. Makes for a long day.
