no permit or training to carry a concealed handgun

OR TRAINING?!

I'm very much in favor of training. I'm very much opposed to allowing the government the power to require it.

"Expect the *ill rate to increase as criminals are going to also love this. Everybody can now pack heat."

In 22 out of 22 states that have gone with "Constitutional Carry", that has not happened. Criminals are ALREADY "packing heat"....

How many street thugs get “training”? Other than by watching Hollywood films.

A red herring issue if ever there was one.

This is two good things from Dewine in the past few months so I’ll give him props: legalized consumer fireworks and now carry. Good job Dewine. Yeah he was a bit weird on COVID but most were and it was new territory.

So funny to watch everyone wince at no training. What, no state sponsored training? Whatever could I do without the state? Have you all seen the training that is out there? It is nonsense. The most dangerous people I have ever shot with are folks trained by our military instead of their parents.

How about training yourself and your children from a young age? This is how we did it in the country, family trained with hunter’s safety course to get our hunting license at age 10.

If we want state training then I suggest we employ it as a requirement of graduating school. But honestly firearm safety should be the top priority for all parents, state be damned.

“So you would ban concealed carry without training?”
Yes, absolutely. If you carry a firearm in public you are part of the Militia of the U.S. therefore subject to any minimum training procedures the State requires.
Requiring training does not in the least “Infringe” on your Constitutional right.

Thought I read somewhere that you still need to have your Conceal Carry License if you plan on legally taking your gun to another state that Ohio has reciprocity with.

I’m going to keep my CCW up to date.

and now 23 states have adopted Constitutional Carry.

Let’s see if Georgia and Indiana hop on board this year joining Alabama and Ohio.

So many get it wrong when reading the second amendment. Remember checks and balances were everything to our founders, and they did not trust standing armies.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.“

This is a check and balance. Since we need a militia to secure our state, we shall insure it is not misused by making sure that all the people will have arms to offset the necessary evil. Check and balance.

Too many think the second amendment has militia as a prerequisite….this is not true. The right to keep and bear arms is a CHECK for the militia. If you have to be in the militia to bear arms then you would not use the term “the people” as it would be redundant, you would keep the militia in the second part. The people may make up the militia but the people referenced in the last part of 2A are seperate from the militia.

And if you don’t get the “required training,” then what?

And they don’t require permission from the state via TRAINING!? That will give some FReepers the vapors.

I can’t believe India hasn’t already.

As for Georgia: Will Gov. Abrams allow for that. I know she is running for her second term, but will she throw a bone to the people outside of Atlanta?

“ And if you don’t get the “required training,” then what?”
You don’t get to carry in public. Just like if you don’t fill out a form 4473 you don’t get to buy a firearm.
If you want to be Constitutional stickler the you have “ the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” It says nothing about the right to use it. So technically a State or local government could say, “ You can carry a firearm but if you use it, no matter for what reason, you’re committing a crime”. That law would, if you want to be a stickler, would be Constitutional.

Taking a handgun out to play with on a bus remains illegal in Ohio as it is a Misdemeanor called Brandishing. Brandishing can also be a fourth degree felony when doing so while committing another crime. Showing a firearm can also be a misdemeanor offense of Menacing if used to frighten others. This is the crime that Tamir Rice was committing when he was shot by police at Gunning Recreation Center. Like the fools that they are. The City Fathers decided to payoff the Rice family with a quick $6 million out of court settlement instead of charging the mother and fighting the case.
