If they are doing this Dnipropetrovsk/Dnipro, then they must be doing this all over Ukraine. It looks like they are grating Styrofoam to fill bottles and then they will add more liquid fuel as needed. To all of the military types out there, I am curious how effective Molotov cocktails can be against armor. Can it do more than just burn off the reactive armor if a hatch isn't open?

Would this weapon be best used against supply trucks?
They’ll get drunk and burn the apartments buildings to the ground...

Styrofoam and gasoline, home made napalm.
It sticks and burns.

They’re not very effective against modern armor unless a whole lot of them hit the target. Glass bottles of ammonia near the air intakes would probably work though.

Why that’s interesting.
To: Dr. Franklin
It’s a good way to get yourself killed because modern armor isn’t really going to be damaged by it.

If they hit in front of the driver of a tank, it would really screw up a tanks ability to see. With the hear and smoke, laser range finders are pretty much useless. Land inside a hatch, and those inside will suffer significant burns. Try to escape, and you’ll be shot.
Just a few of the reasons tanks are rarely suitable for urban warfare against a determined enemy.

Worked pretty well against the couple of APC's they tried to roll through Maidan.
Yes, the APC's have rubber tires that will burn. Tanks have metal tracks that don't burn, although the grease on them would and cause faster wear.

I am not a military type but I think they would want to hit the engine vents.
To: Shadow44
The goal is not to defeat the armor; it’s to start fires that create lots of burning, done, which blinds the tank crew. If it goes into a hatch, those inside would likely be seriously burned or forced out by the smoke and lack of oxygen.

Tanks also have rubber track pads. They burn. Tanks wheels also have rubber.
Also sticky bombs would be very effective and easy to make. Put on a long pole, and they are very effective.

Air intakes for engine, external sensors and com devices, etc... Doesn’t need to completely melt the dang thing down, just damage it enough to make it “combat ineffective”.
Which... Enough molotov’s can in fact do...

I’m not diminishing their efforts, but civilians throwing molotov cocktails will get a lot of people killed.
To: Dead Corpse
Correct, most engines, especially diesel, go wild hen gasoline fumes are introduced into the air intakes. Causes over speeding and engine failure. They should probably put some rubber chips in the cocktails, too to enhance smoke and help destroy navigation ability.
