Finland eventually lost that war and lost about a third of its territory.

Correct...but Putin doesn't have a million men to lose and then follow on with another million. And current news is that the Ukrainians have taken the page from the Finns with small killer teams using Javelins and NLAWS to surprising effect....with more missiles being shipped to them from various sources.

Russia is not the US. Their effort has been nothing like Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Indeed. Hard to think China has a low-pop problem.

Another aspect of this, some suggest that the coddled way Chinese men are treated will deeply impact their ability to use those men as cannon fodder.

I’m wondering if “backroom deals” were done between the two countries and now China is reneging.

China will do what China thinks is in its best interest. They've always been that way. Russia may have thought they had a deal but it wouldn't surprise me at all if China walked away from it.

“ I suspect China will prop Russia up for a while. There is as good chance this is a diversion to tie up resources so China can invade Taiwan.”

We have a winner.

Where it will get bloody for Russia is when they send the rest of their forces across the border to try to pacify the country. Then they will die by the tens of thousands.

Said it the other day..

Vlad “the Bad” bit off more than he can chew.

They’ll get at least a portion of the Ukraine, but I doubt they’ll be able to handle all of it.
The longer this goes...He has one more week. If they dont get er done by then its gonna be trouble and he will be deposed and his grand delusion of another Catherine the great empire will become and fantasy.

If this guy plays his card right he could become the next leader.

The citizens of Ukraine would be better off if one side held a distinct advantage. The citizens of Russia are in no danger. Putin will probably go berserk rather than call this off, he can’t take a defeat here.

This equal matchup of military strength is likely to cause a lot more damage and death to Ukraine citizens in a war of attrition.

Putin’s grandfather was a personal cook for Stalin. Putin has lived in the bubble of political patronage his whole life.

His generals and intelligence chief told him not to invade Ukraine. That it would be too costly. Basically “a failure” without saying so. He told them Russian soldiers would be met with flowers. Eerily similar to Hitler and his general staff prior to the invasion of the Soviet Union. Both hallucinating the illusion of restoring a fallen empire.

“Convoy” of support vehicles parked on the road shoulder.

Odd. Smacks of propaganda.

“It would be interesting if China “supported” Putin with a “wink”, but in reality were setting him up to fail.”

Recall that Hitler made a pact with Russia early in WWII and then invaded them.
