Aside from the Channel Islands, there were no German boots on British soil in 1940. Had there been German troops in Cornwall, Devonshire, Kent, and Yorkshire and Churchill ordered general mobilization, it might well have been.

I try to look at this from the lends if this were to happen in the US (temporarily suspend any near term reality). There are plenty of veterans that could take up arms and among them people to lead a resistance movement. The question really boils down to do you want to fight and die for your children’s independence and freedom. A quagmire is not something Russia wants. They did that before in Afghanistan.
