If true, hope they get the book thrown at them.

That’s why I said between 0-100%.
Why just yesterday I thought a woman got killed by a police horse…

We’d try to put 40 kts of wind down the deck with a no flaps landing.

Really don’t care if it was a chick. Women make damn good pilots. There are, no doubt, damn good women pilots. I've flown with some. However, I'm also a Naval Aviator and know for certain that the Admirals are pushing for more female pilots whether or not they are qualified. If an instructor pilot gives a female student too many downs, it comes down from the skipper that the instructor is no longer allowed to be put on the scedule with the student. If the squadron skippers don't tow this line, they are relieved of command,.
I can also tell you from my experience, I have traps on the Carl Vinson, this was bad. It was a good weather day in calm seas. The F-35 has a slow approach speed and the new engines are relatively responsive. Whoever that pilot was had no business being out there. If this turns out to be an affirmative action hire, several chains of command need to be axed.

What I do care about is if the pilot was a less than competent affirmative action flake from a protected class

In the struggle between wokeness and a $75M F-35, the F-35 is going to lose.

Women may not be up to par with men physically and mentally on the more extreme air combat maneuvers, but precision flying an F-35C onto a carrier is a different skill and a skilled woman pilot can be very good. Every bit as good as her male peers. It all comes down to the individual, not the gender.

Isn’t that the second F-35 to be lost in that area?
And has either one been recovered?

They jailed the sub guy who inadvertently posted sensitive photos of the propulsion area.

I’m no expert but it appeared to me that the lefthand strut collapsed.

I know women Naval Aviators. They were never given any breaks; they had to be good pilots, and I've never heard even one complaint.

It was a chick. Is this known, or is it a guess?
The pilot was male. I used to be a naval training command instructor and know a guy who taught and remembers him as a student. He was on his first sea tour.

Agree 100% on all of the above. And it's not just women. It applies to all the protected classes being advanced by our woke command structure. The F-35 is a comparatively easy aircraft to fly and land. Everyone makes mistakes and has brain fade from time to time but I'm betting the pilot was taking that slot from from a much more qualified individual for the usual reasons. Not always wokeness either. Know of at least one pilot who's career was advanced beyond her abilities by her superior officer boy friend. A male Navy pilot thinking with his little head instead of his big one. Hard to believe that one, I know. :-)

It was a chick. Thanks. I had heard that, but I wasn't sure. (The picture in the article describes the pilot with the masculine, "his".)

Yeah, but the bottom fell out on the very short final of the approach and the plane had a ramp strike. It's really a testament to the structural integrity of the F-35 that it survived the strike surprisingly intact and the pilot was able to eject and survive. Often not the case with a ramp strike. The F-35’s engine is comparatively responsive and it's not very difficult to land so unless there was an engine failure or a bird got swallowed people are going to be taking a close look at the pilot on this one.

In Turkey I watched a pilot land a F-104 with a throttle stuck at 3/4. He was almost super-sonic and broke thru the incoming barrier but was picked up by a net at end of the runway attached to a ship anchor chain. Amazing.

I was an Aviation Boatswain Mate Handle on the Flight Deck of two carriers and it’s the most dangerous job in the world. These Sailors were completely wrong and need to be reminded of Operational Security via Page 13.
