An updated article with photos. (Can someone posts some of them). The photos show fire damage throughout the ship so it is likely all of the cars are damaged or destroyed.
The article says that although there re electric cars on the boat, they don't know if the batteries started it.

No problem. The fire will go out when the boat sinks.

“The article says that although there re electric cars on the boat, they don’t know if the batteries started it.”
I’m sure the insurance carrier will be very interested if (and I would assume so) it was the batteries that started the fire.
Salty air/spray and Lithium/Ion batteries don’t mix well.

Based on these pictures it looks like it is burning itself out. One a car is reduced to ashes, there is nothing left to burn.

That was quick. Thanks for posting them.

Doesn’t make a difference if a battery started it. The increased danger is the same once a battery ignites.

One of our submarines could use the practice.

I informed my wife about this and told her her present would be late.
Surprisingly she was skeptical.

Some pics make it look like the hulk will not sink.

Gas powered cars (and any other gas powered machines) generally ship with empty tanks and drained oil.

I know you were joking, but look up what happens when lithium comes in contact with water. Multiply that. A lot.

We’re going to have to get a bigger hulk.

Huh. I'd always assumed they were driven onto and off of RO/RO ships, just with probably a nearly empty fuel tank.
How do they get them on and off then?

It does not look like there will be much to salvage except the steel in the ship.
The fire probably damaged a lot of the steel structure, and destroyed wiring and other parts of the ship. I would not expect to recover any usable cars either unless they have some solid barriers in the ship that withstood the fire.
What a mess.
