You’ll pardon my age but my time in the trucking industry was the ‘70s, and the trailer world was in flux even then. Recall that was when they first started allowing triples on I-80 through Nevada. I see even more interesting stuff on that road now.

And I also went through the strikes in ‘74 and ‘79. Damn near ended up in a fight with some Teamsters blocking a fuel pump in the latter case.

And I doubt that anyone is still running behind a 400 BigCam with an RTO12513. More like ISV with an Allison in the big companies, right?

But the basics are the same: you may be able to get newbie drivers doing simple work but the minute there’s a kink - like having to go over Donner Summit in a snowstorm, or deal with ANY kind of breakdown, or complying with the Bridge laws, logs, any of the regulations...the wheels come off.

Takes real time in the seat to get a competent over the road trucker, not some dickhead drayage guy driving around in town. Been there, seen that. As far as the big companies, they’re in the same position...still need to be able to perform.

I have seen the Habib’s and the Gandhi’s lately. Also the Jagmeets. But they plug themselves into a system they don’t know how to run. And if they want to go against the native truckers...well, if they thought the hostility in the truck stops was bad now, wait till they try to scab it.

“I would not go to jail over this. “

Then you have no personal beliefs that matter and can safely be ignored.

Not sure about truckers driving with out CDL. Truckers are required to pull into weigh stations. Log books are no longer hand written but truck computer generated. In a lot of American trucking load hauls are negotiated. A close friend managed the transport of goods in a section of the aUS and part of South America. He got sick of dealing with some of the a-hole truckers. It would work like this. Some one would call the company he worked for, I got 2,000 cans of motor oil to be delivered from Savanah Georgia to Jackson Florida. He would then put the run out to be bid on. So some trucker dead heading to Florida might take the contract if his company didn’t have a truck available. I don’t think companies are going to trust Loads to people with out CDL because of nsurance and the like.

“they’re in the same position...still need to be able to perform.”

No.
Not true.
Many companies are tossing know nothings behind the wheel and sending then out in 90k pound death machines to drive the highways with us.
These know nothings further ignore one way signs, no entry, exit only, and the company berates the businesses for telling the driver to pay attention.
“Why are you mean to our driver?!” Well if the driver would pull his head out of his backside and not run over a fire hydrant...and then park on the water fountain coming out of it.

Because that’s what good moms do, “break up that fighting, boys, take it out back, don’t be wrasslin in front of the store, people might see you or get hurt,, mind you, you just go on home.”

This one’s even more fun:

https://www.nytimes.com/1979/06/28/archives/truck-strike-in-3d-week-violence-and-peace-sporadic.html

Don’t know how old y’are, but uh...I remember the good ol’ days. Rubber Duckie was still on everyone’s minds, and there was a shotgun or a .45 in every cab.

And back then, there was a grungy, filthy, receding hairline jerk from Delaware egging them on...wonder what he’s gonna say this time?

Don’t worry. He’ll have his new found Israelite tuff guys Garland and Mayorkas take care of them mean trucksters.

Same problems back in the good ol’ days.

Those guys are on the fringes. They depend on the real operators to keep things going.

Think you summarized all the reasons it’ll end up being a clusterf**k.

If they go home now they will be targeted as individuals.
There is power in numbers. They are right where they need to be.

Not so fringe anymore.
I see way too many of them at work.
435 and counting know nothings looking for the site across the street doing damage at my job and then whining about being told just why they are stupid.

So y’all think that a trucker convoy/strike ain’t gonna work cuzza all the furrin scabs they been importing the last 30 years.

Well, ask yourself this: how does the Rat party look itself in the mirror when they try to engage in mass strikebreaking?

Ain’t that a Republican management gig?

Anyone who tries to break the lines will be writing their own epitaph. I laughed when I heard the dimbulb Ottawa mayor say he was gonna tow the trucks away. Has he ever seen a heavy truck tow body? What are there in Ottawa city, like three of them? The guy who runs one of those rigs said he has the equipment, but he didn’t know anyone who would do the job. They damn well know better: it would be the end of their business. Soon as the fun is over, they would be blacklisted in an ugly way.

These effete little idiots who prance around in their tutus at taxpayer funded parties are about to find out what makes countries run, and it ain’t cops and army pukes, and it sure as hell ain’t Poli Sci majors sipping Starbucks Chai Lattes.

“So y’all think that a trucker convoy/strike ain’t gonna work cuzza”
I haven’t said anything about the protest.
I have made mention of the idiots infesting the industry.
And you should read my post 42 response to idiocy.

I don’t think companies are going to trust Loads to people with out CDL because of insurance and the like.

Unfortunately, they do. Honesty doesn't seem to be a virtue anymore.

I try.
Many of the decent drivers my site sees are retiring.
I’m distressed to see them go.

I would not go to jail over this.

Some people are clearly more determined to fight against tyranny.

Outsmarting CNN addicts, NPC’s, and commie trash is kinda a low bar.

The issue is that they have power — power doesn’t need brains.
