The Czech Foreign Ministry said Voracova and Djokovic are “in the same detention” in Melbourne “together with several other players.” The statement did not include the other names.

I wish Australia had a consulate here in Atlanta. This is a big tennis town, I bet we could organize a protest in front of it, if it existed.
I actually have a friend who’s been involved with Novak in some business events, and has hit with him socially.
Novak and his team filed the same documents as 25 other tennis players (who received exemptions) and they didn’t have any problems, just Novak.They wanted to humiliate him. They could have said ‘don’t come Novak’ and that would have been okay.
But no, they wanted to humiliate him and they’re still keeping him in prison. He’s not in detention, he’s in prison. They took all of his stuff, even his wallet.. ~ his father.

The news reports out of Australia have been quite sad. Few places in the Anglosphere worse from Government totalitarianism approach, NZ perhaps.
They are like the old Soviet Union. I used to want to visit both countries, but I no longer do. Too oppressive and totalitarian for me.
He’s in immigration detention in a hotel in the middle of Melbourne. Why do people feel the need to exaggerate stuff like this?
It would be pretty embarrassing to win the Australian Open and parade around like you’ve accomplished something while knowing full well that would never have happened if the real champion hadn’t been prevented from playing by a government intent upon showing the peons who’s boss.
