Does anyone think South Dakota is going to elect a Democrat?

Those paying the post election night ballot harvesters and counters say "yes".

John Thune is a RINO, and Mitch McConnell’s right hand lackey. The people of South Dakota can’t stand him anymore. He sees the writing on the wall.

Trump is getting rid of all the RINOs, PEDO’s and corrupto’s ahead of his return. He is reshaping the party for what is to come.

“At one time, South Dakota was represented in the U.S. Senate by James Abourezk and George McGovern, two of the most Liberal Democrats in the body.”

I recall Abourezk. I had a friend that was a strong democrat and worked on Abourezk’s reelection team as a war veteran. I called this clown Abor-zerk just to PO this guy.

In that era SD’s northern neighbor, ND, had democrats all over the place.

Historically speaking, how the farmers were treated by the big grain companies had a lot to do with it. The commie NPL party gained roots, so did Farmers Union which in its beginning even had communes, one of which the housing still exists in Minot ND today.

“Rand Paul.”

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Good choice, but remember, the Senate Republicans would have to elect him as Leader. Would they do that? I doubt it, though I would like to see that.

Never done much but feed at the public trough. Those types generally think government can solve every problem as long as they are in the government.

Yep. I wrote an article called "Prairie Empire" that explained this in detail. It might be on the way back machine or on an old Free Republic archives.

Basically, it was farmers jettisoning their conservative social values in exchange for federal dollars. Now that both Dakotas no longer depend so much on federal dollars, they are going back to their conservative social values.

And this would be the ideal year for the old warhorses to retire. This means YOU, Chuck Grassley. Excellent Senator for many years, but has no business running again now. And there are others.

As a native South Dakotan (currently in Babylonian exile in the Peoples Republic of Minnesota) do not assume that the state is deep red and will automatically replace Thune with another Republican. South Dakota voters are quirky and have sent the likes of George McGovern and Tom Daschle to the Senate for multiple terms. Governor Noem is not universally popular and there are some who do not like her increasing national visibility. The Democratic Party in South Dakota however has been in the minority for decades and has not in recent years generated any credible candidates. Being a small state with only two major media markets, elections in South Dakota could be swayed with large infusions of campaign contributions from outside liberal groups provided the Democrats find a credible candidate.

It all comes down to Conservatism.

If you do not support Drain The Swamp, then you are not Conservative. And if you have been in Washington more than, say, 10 years (note this is LESS than 2 Senate terms), you do not support Drain The Swamp and you are NOT Conservative.

Conservatism is Build the Wall, Drain the Swamp, America First In ALL Things, Pro Life and Pro Gun. Any deviation at all renders the individual not conservative, especially the 2nd item.

We will not get new leadership by re-electing Assistant Democrats.

Complete list of the GOP Senators up in 2022:

Roy Blunt (Missouri) Has announced he will retire at end of term.
John Boozman (Arkansas)
Richard Burr (North Carolina) Has announced he will retire at end of term.
Mike Crapo (Idaho)
Chuck Grassley (Iowa)
John Hoeven (North Dakota)
Ron Johnson (Wisconsin)
John Kennedy (Louisiana)
James Lankford (Oklahoma)
Mike Lee (Utah)
Jerry Moran (Kansas)
Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)
Rand Paul (Kentucky)
Rob Portman (Ohio) Has announced he will retire at end of term.
Marco Rubio (Florida)
Tim Scott (South Carolina)
Richard Shelby (Alabama) Has announced he will retire at end of term.
John Thune (South Dakota)
Patrick Toomey (Pennsylvania) Has announced he will retire at end of term.
Todd Young (Indiana)

Toomey, Burr, Blunt, Portman and Shelby are leaving, which helps, but there are a lot of them to primary.

Rubio and Hoeven are Amnesty Senators. They have voted for a permanent Democrat majority, can’t get any more Assistant Democrat than that.

The only ones worthy of re-election are Johnson, Paul and Kennedy.

The rest are Assistant Democrats.

You will not get new leadership by re-electing Mitch’s bitches.
The only way we get new leadership is with new membership of the GOP Senate.

I completely agree. One by one, we have to keep coming up with strong Conservative challengers, at every opportunity, at all levels of government.
