I’m not a doctor ....

LOL. I know you're not, because if you were, your user name would be "Ace's Dad MD".

In some folks, statins destroy the insulation surrounding the brain’s wiring.

It's not just insulation, but vital for facilitating neural transmission. If I'm not mistaken, it's also a key component of cell membranes.

The aspirin I'll take, and the blood pressure medication I have no choice about, since I have a dissected aorta. But I'll skip the statins, thanks.

My primary care doctor and I have been over and over this for years. He wants me on statins. I tell him I’ve tried three different ones (Lipitor, Crestor, and Pravachol). Each time I stopped them after getting muscle pains (warning sign for rhabdomyolysis). But I also recall having noticeable cognitive impairment while I was on one of them in particular over several years.
He has shown me a calculator online for cardiovascular risk which indicates mine is considerable. I’ve played with that some on my own. Even if you enter golden values for total cholesterol, HDL, BP, etc. it tells you you need statins if you’re my age (presently almost 76), so basically everyone my age should be on them. I question that.

I will never take stations, they are a scam. Check out the Feldman protocol for lowering cholesterol to make your doctor happy.

I have not really had a cholesterol problem until actually Covid hit so it went up last year and stayed that way. I have been on several sites that you can do a self assessment and it says all things considered I am at a low risk for cardio vascular disease. I tried Lipitor about two years ago even when my total cholesterol was 208 and I got insomnia and then horrible dreams. My doctor then said that has never been recorded and that there must be another explanation. You can Google Lipitor and see that insomnia and bad dreams are possible. Anyway I am trying 5mm of Crestor this week and will let you all know how that goes.
