Hollywood caricatures aside, the pimp with the Cadillac and the fuzzy hat... A real pimp is a manager. He is a working-class guy with a blue-collar day job.

Without a pimp, a street-walking hooker has to deal with mostly black guys who want to rape and rob her.

A pimp finds customers. Married white guys who just want to have sex. They don't want to haggle over the cost. They don't want to make a scene. They're probably married, unhappily, and just what to find a girl to go have sex with. A streetwalking hooker would much rather spend her time with a cash-paying, clean, married white guy than a crackhead black rapist. This is what a pimp does. He finds these guys.

And for their effort, they take 25%. Not a bad deal. 25% of $200 is better than 100% of nothing.

I know what a pimp does. I would hope any adult would know. They may protect the women from abuse from others, however there is little doubt they are abusing the women instead. Most of These pimps are no knights in shining armor as you want to describe them. They are completely abusive dirt bags. And no 25% is not ok. But it’s not like the girls can bargain with a sociopath or even leave working for him and try to work for another can she? Right there should say what’s going on. Can’t believe you even wrote that.

Btw I don’t follow Hollywood’s caricature. I do read significant enough material about and from trafficked women tho.

Btw - it’s more like the pimp takes over 50% probably 75%. He nickel and dimes her expenses and definitely feeds her addictions and deducts that too. .

But we relabeled it "human trafficking" and now people are calling for 20-year prison sentences.

There is a substantial difference between a person choosing to be a sex worker (whore) and one who is kidnapped, duped or coerced (victim). Twenty years seems fair enough if they have not treated their victims badly; not enough if they committed or enabled rapes, beatings and other mistreatment.
