John McCain was one of the very, very few Cold War aces. In just his training commands and only one deployment, he managed to crash, eject from, run into a power line, burn up, and get shot down in five different US Navy planes!
You have your opinion and I have mine. Your opinion is based upon the “Official Naval Board of Inquiry” which John McCain’s father (Admiral McCain) had influence over, and my opinion is based upon the testimony of sworn eyewitnesses.

The USS Forrestal Fire was caused by John McCain playing a prank on a plane behind him. He hit his afterburner in front of A-12 behind him which caused the missile to fire. It was not a STRAY voltage surge. It was idiocy that caused it.
