Good point.
With much inside help from our corrupt government officials.
I remain doubtful...but you make good points. A historian (I think Michael Howard) once stated a country’s reaction to another’s preparations for war is often the crucial factor in going to war. China is flexing its muscles; and, in fact, may have already begun its attack—cyber..Wuhan virus etc.. On the other hand, war is also disrupting to world economy (an understatement in the nuclear age). No argument about the need for a “massive deterrent campaign”...
> we need to start making our own microchips, like, yesterday.
That’s why TSMC is spending billion$ building fabs in the continental US. They’re preparing for the day the commies grab all their stuff.
Interesting graphic. Looks like occupying Taiwan gives China an opening into the central Pacific. It does. But where do they go from there? Hawaii? They’d still have to force some congested straights around Indonesia & Australia to get into the Indian Ocean. Presumable when they are doing that, they’ve already lost the USA as a trading partner.
Ask the CIA. They seem to be really good at recruiting radical jihadis to act as surrogate light infantry for the United States in places we aren't suppose to be... like Syria. And we have to keep them gainfully employed or the weapons that we game them get pointed at US commercial air carriers, sky scrapers and US nightclubs.
Should that be the case,
1) Blow the Three Gorges dam, using conventional weapons. All it would take would be to hit one of the flood gates.
2) Paraphrase JFK, and go nucular on them. If they try to retaliate, totally thermonucularly destroy them. Pretty much the entire world has had enough of their hsit anyway. Kinda like the small town in northwest Missouri that had a psychotic town bully. Someone dealt with him, and it turned out that nobody saw nothing...
Of course, that would take competent civilian and military leadership. At this point one suspects that even our senior military officers have been bought out.
So, what in the hell do we do? That's a question.
Underwater?
India has nukes, and Taiwan and Japan are a few turns of a screwdriver from having them “officially.”
I hope it doesn’t come to nukes. Nobody on the planet gets out of that unscathed.
Only if the Taiwanese go for a Masada option.
A slow squeeze by blockade might result in them capitulating.
Madagascar is a "done deal" as a CCP-owned colony and outpost. New Zealand can be taken by a couple RoRo ships entering port on both islands and unloading APCs. The Kiwis don't have one fighter aircraft, they got rid of them all as unneeded.
