Good point. And how do you prove the institutions of higher learning misled students? Or can you just claim it unilaterally?
Progressivism is inherently malfeasance and corruption.
I feel my wife was misled by an institution of higher education back in the 1970s.
We have long since repaid the student debt but I'd still like a refund of some sort.
>> for students who feel they were misled by an institution of higher education.
Misled is clearly the game at these indoctrination centers
That was my first question as well. I worked as a teenager to put away college money and basically paid for my own college. My parents paid for my dorm costs and my books, which was a tiny amount compared to tuition. And when I took out student loans for grad school, I paid those off myself. I worked my tail off for my college costs. Why on earth should I have worked my tail off to pay for someone else's college, leaving them free and clear? And what does that teach the younger generation? "Everything is free--socialism is great!"
The U.S. Department of Education, under the direction of President Joe Biden, recently announced that the 18,000 students who were defrauded by ITT Technical Institute will have their student loans forgiven. In total, over $500 million worth of student debt was forgiven, amounting to an average of nearly $28,000 per borrower. That said, this sure screws the students who were paying CASH from their own savings and not incurring government debt.
I can't believe that students of ITT were defrauded out of a HALF BILLION DOLLARS! One small school!!
That worthless degree in Transgender Studies is now worth big bucks.
The degree is still a scam, but now the students are in on the scam.
Go to college and then claim they misled you on your earning potential.
Any student will make that argument.

With interest also!
Where are the refunds for those of us who paid our kids’ student loans off?
Haha, I crack myself up.
You noticed: The excuse “They defrauded me!” works for ANYONE who “cannot et a job on graduation” - Meaning, “My first two applications for a $100,000.00 per year air-conditioned no-show job with a guaranteed no-fire clause were turned down for no reason at all!”
The Borrower Defense Program came out around 2016, I think.
You’d think the bill would force the repayment by the school, but I don’t the offending institutions are places like University of North Carolina or MIT. It’s usually small private schools that brag a 90+% placement of their graduates and are probably now out of business.
Not saying I agree with the loan forgiveness (I’m still paying off my own student loan!) but I can see the program ripe for fraud. Not that the Dems would care. But I have no empathy for those who (like a co-worker) has TWO masters degrees and owes $200,000 in student loans, and whines she can’t get another loan to get another masters in philiosophy. Not working in a field either of her degrees are in, nor is she making a 6 figure salary. Mid-to-high 5 figure salary is more like it.
I have mixed feeling about this. If the fed gov accredited these dodgy schools and this in turn allowed taking out federal loans, then there is some culpability with the federal government. Once again, fed gov is asleep at the wheel. FWIW, i think regulatory capture is worse than no regulations at all in a lot of casds.
“I feel my wife was misled by an institution of higher education back in the 1970s. We have long since repaid the student debt but I’d still like a refund of some sort.”
Definitely. I FEEL I was misled by a mortgage company in the 1980s. I paid off the house loan years ago but I want my cut as well since no one is responsible for anything any more. There was also an auto loan in the 1970s that I paid off. I should be entitled to get that money back as well. LOL
I don’t mind allowing pauses in payment, but they should still have to repay it.
"By Erika Giovanetti Sponsored by Credible - which is majority owned by our parent, Fox Corporation, and is solely responsible for its services."
I used to work in the student loan servicing industry...even then (1990s) there were provisions to forgive loans if the school was proven to have engaged in fraud or deceptive practices. So, this is really nothing new or unusual. In such cases the school would become disqualified to receive further student loan funds, which generally meant the end of the school.
ITT Tech was a venerable coast-to-coast chain...ironically, many of these “secondary” diploma-mill schools started out VERY good and well-regarded in their respective fields.
I’m sure every pension plan that
holds that paper ( debt/asset )
in their investment portfolio will jump for joy
as the value of that paper just got shafted.
Kick the responsible citizens in the
nuts some more why don’t ya Josef.
I guess if your the ‘ big guy’
who gets 10% of the graft you
don’t have to worry about your
pension investments.
What a creepy crook.
It would do my heart good to see universities
not get what they don’t
deserve
if I didn’t suspect academia
Will be considered ‘ infrastructure’
that will be bailed out with yet more
tax funded bail out cash.
.
According to the headline you don’t have to prove you were misled. You just have to FEEL like you were misled.
Facts don’t matter. Your lack of doing due diligence in selecting a school or major doesn’t matter. Only your...
