Likely there are many other Democrat politicians and big donors belonging to exclusive clubs that practice discrimination. One tactic of Democrats and the media is hiring opposition research consultants to identify Republican memberships in such organizations and then outing them with great publicity. Republicans choose not to play the same game. Perhaps they are “nice guys”, compromised themselves and don’t want to draw attention, or they truly believe in conservative principles (i.e. the right to freely associate).
Numerous Democrats have proven their voters are outraged by alleged discriminatory behavior by Republicans, but will forgive or ignore the same behavior by Democrats. Ralph Northam was forgive for wearing blackface. The Lt. Governor of Virginia Justin Fairfax’s rape allegations have been ignored. Numerous racial insensitive remarks by Joe Biden have been ignored as have sexual misconduct allegations. Bill Clinton’s sexual escapades, including predatory behavior, were ignored by Democrat voters. Robert Byrd’s KKK membership did not prevent him from serving in the Senate for decades. Sheldon Whitehouse has nothing to be concerned about from either Democrat voters or the GOP.
He needs to be treated just like Trent Lott was treated. If we have the numbers, he needs to be expelled from the Senate. I’m no longer interested in a debate about freedom of association. These debates just cause us to lose.
